There is an LMR195, and I found it to be better than the run of the mill RG-58. The 240 is a better performer than the 195. Keep in mind that it has a solid center conductor, so it's going to be a bit harder to run as compared to a cable with a stranded center conductor.

The "240" part is the outside diameter in inches, so 0.240 inches outside diameter, just under a 1/4 inch.

It seems to be recommended for short runs, jumpers, etc.

What is your intended use?

LMR240 is great stuff. I use it for just about everything these days. I still prefer thicker coax when transmitting (LMR400) but for receiving and patch cables it's awesome stuff. It's half the size of RG8. It's ideal when using BNC connectors but works fine for SO-239/PL-259 too.

Yes it's not as flexible as other cables but it's not that stiff.

+1. I like it a lot-I use it here for both scanners and HF. Very good shielding, and very tough exterior. I make my patchchords with it too.

LMR240 is lower loss than RG-8X of the same size and its a great choice if you need something smaller than LMR400. There is a guy on Ebay selling new 60ft chunks of LMR240 for $13, which is cheaper than RG-8X.

LMR-240 is Times Microwave and has the standard PE jacket. Andrew Commscope has a version with a PVC jacket that has more flexibility. we find with most applications it is not the relatively thin cooper center that is not flexible its the tough outer jacket. :)

If you are running it outdoors or expect abrasion use the PE jacket version, if you are using it for jumpers and want extra flexibility use the Andrew CNT-240.

In reality Times and Commscope both make many versions of jackets for both 400 and 240

Standard with a PE jacket
FR with more flex and a fire rating
PVC that is real flexible
UltraFlex which is rubberized with a braided center
also a few other types of Plenum jackets

As always - watch for the bait and switch.
