I'm not familiar with the situation, but apparently there is a money issue and funds need to be freed up. Where do you propose they cut the funding if not the police department. I'm also assuming (and you know what that does) that other departments took a hit as well.

As large as a budget as Tulsa has to operate on in the first place, there's plenty of places to cut spending before having to resort to taking jobs away. For starters, turn off the dang lights in new city hall at night. The main point is the budget woes the City of Tulsa is facing right now could have been prevented, it's not like we didn't know times were tough this year, but we have a mayor and City council bent on wasting resources on things that are not needed like a new ball park, a new city hall (we're still paying utilities and upkeep in the old, vacant one), flying the mayor's personal friends around in the police helicopter, etc.

Irresponsible decisions, not the economy are at fault here.

I just don't understand, every time any City or State faces budget short falls the first thing they want to cut is the public safety organizations. The always seem to go to the police well before the fire side as well. They could cut out other things.

Maybe the City of Tulsa needs to go to a 4 day work week for the city offices. Utah did this and it saved them 41 million in just overtime. They said after 10 hours days at work people are far less likely to stay any later and that savings was just in overtime. They did not state how much was saved on electricity.

Oklahoma City is looking at furloughs next year. The city officials need to get there heads out of their butts and look at cutting other things and they don't have to have those $100 a plate luncheons etc. They could always eat McDonald's. Really sad feel for the 21 guys that lost their jobs. All cities state they need more Police Officers on the street but how can they say that as every time you turn around they are laying people off.

Just my thoughts
