I was curious about how airports might use location information. I thought LAX might be a good choice. I saw this:
RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference Database

It is a little combersome to pick out the location information, so I'll ask what systems do not have location information?

As an aviation enthusiast, I have programmed many airport frequencies into my radio. I typically divide an airport into two systems, one for the aviation band and the other for the land radios (e.g. airport ops, security, cargo ops, etc...). Anyway, within the aviation band, I program three groups:
Field - tower, ground, clearance, emergency,
ARINC - (I know these have a new owner) these are air to ground aviation operations frequencies
Approach - approach / departure frequencies for this airport.

So within those three general groups, I think there is a valid discussion of what range to apply for a location based scanner... Even though you can hear airplanes for many miles when they are up in the air, I think it is reasonable to apply smaller radii.

Before I muddy the water more, a couple of questions...
1. What other systems don't support location?
2. Should we consider adding location to airports?
3. What are reasonable ranges for the different frequencies?

The message you see just indicates that the location has not been set yet in the RR DB. You can help us by submitting updates with the appropriate lat/long and range (a circle approximating the area in which the frequencies are used). Range should be not be the "monitorable" range but should reflect the actual range in which it is used. E.g., the circle should encompass a city limits not anything larger. For an airport, it should just encompass the area of the airport since operations should be contained within that. Air traffic control for the tower would extend a couple miles out (to whatever the FAA-assigned tower control territory is).

Thanks.
