SDS100 / BCD536HP curious to what creates the need to re-enter location data. Anytime I make a change I usually update the location but I wonder if this is really necessary. thank you for your input

Are you setting the location in the scanner itself, but then have to reset when you make a change (in Sentinel? and write it to the scanner?).

If your location is set on the scanner, and you have to reset after writing an updated list, or database update, to the scanner from Sentinel, then probably, your location is either incorrect, or blank, in Sentinel. Go to your Profile in Sentinel, and make sure that the location, and range, set there matches what is on the scanner.

I keep my local range settings set to 25 but when I travel around and change the zip code, the range resets back to 20 default. I always thought this was the just the way they programmed it. As for the zip code changing after writing to scanner, the problem is what hiegtx stated above.

i guess I did not make myself clear. I am just wanting to know if I enter a zip code into the scanner, will it ever be be necessary to re-enter the same zip code or can I always assume it will still be there. like they say "Set it & Forget It" ? sorry about the confusion ..

As long as you do not "write to the scanner", either a database update, or a new, or updated, Favorites list, then whatever location you enter on the scanner would remain the same. Besides writing from Sentinel to the scanner, the only other way that the scanner's location setting would change would be if you connected a GPS. That would reset it to whatever location the GPS generated. If, after using a GPS, you them unplugged the unit, the scanner would still keep the last location generated by the GPS unit.

Once entered via the scanner keypad, the scanner will "remember" the postal/zipcode for future sessions. So long as you/the scanner remain at that current location, it is a "Set it and Forget it" situation.

Of course if the scanner goes elsewhere, as in a new zip code location, then the appropriate zip code should be entered. That's so the "stuff" appropriate to the new area is "activated" and the old area "de-activated".

Set your location in sentinel profile. Then each time you write a db update to your scanner it reset to your usual location. Alleviating your concerns on location settings.

If you do a lot of overwrites and make lots of changes (or travel with the scanner and use that function often) you always have to be aware of the CURRENT location setting when writing to the scanner. If the scanner sits on your desk and you rarely leave the house, you can set it and forget it. I had the scanner a month before I ever left my house and never touched the location settings and it performed flawlessly based on my initial settings after numerous overwrites

It it ever loses it's location it will read "nothing to scan" so it's safe to assume that everything is fine if it does not say that.
