I'll have to plug that frequency in and give it a listen. Cape Air used to fly some DC 3s but that was 25 or more years ago. I imagine those are all gone now.

PBA - Province Town Boston airlines had the DC-3s along with some Convair 440s and Japanese YS-11s..All Gone
What killed them was most airports don't sell High Ocane fuel for those big piston Birds anymore the YS-11 was turbo prop though.

Cape Air Mainly has operated the 402c for many years along with some other smaller aircraft...When they Bought out Nantucket Air they got those 402c's and the Old Island Air 402C's are here at New Bedford in various stages of parts. Cape Air have been looking to replace the fleet though.

This is the 402s replacment. They have had some issues with them because they are new.

A Cape Air flew more or less over my house a few minutes ago. I looked at the display and it was very closely synced to real time.
I have compared local aircraft at KEWB to some over head High Speed aircraft and can see the delay the Jet I saw was turning before it
showed up on the radar as it was turning so today there is a minute maybe 45 second delay. Still not bad for an app .

Yesterday a MedFlight helo flew down the road very close to my house. I heard it approach and then depart and looked at the display. It seemed to be about 30 or so seconds behind the actual event.

In any event, it's not enough of a delay to matter for my purposes.

I've started to figure out the tail numbers for the helos that fly through the area on a regular basis. Pretty cool to track them. It's entertaining to watch all of the news helos circling an area and then try to see if there is anything on TV to match.

Often times now a days, we're pooling helicopter shots. So for one event, the WBTS/NBC helicopter is supplying video to the whole market. Another time WCVB-TV may be, another WBZ-TV. The only time you'll typically see multiple is during breaking news.

Earlier in the week I saw three over a spot on I-495 out in the Marlborough area. That went on for about 20 minutes and then they went on their way. I never found out what went on, but it was interesting. And of course there are the traffic helicopters, with the R44 being the common one used.

It's interesting to see the various aircraft flying around. There are a lot of private planes up there, especially on weekends.

Not Everyone shows up on the screen . Ive had a many times over last weekend National Guard Helicopters head over to the MMR From Quonset RI and they never show on the map so this has Something to do with the Identifier IFF code. Had Another (Blue) helicopter over the house that never showed up It wasn't State police ( Airbus Industries ) but Possible a Med or News Chopper Looked like a Eurocopter 350.

Anybody else encounter this?

Check the altitude setting on the app. You can set it to exclude aircraft below 2,500 feet. I see H60s, mexia, medical, and mexia helos.

Oooops, that's what happens when I try to use my phone for forums. That should be media and MSP helicopters. If I move down to New York, I see those as well.

You can also select to see just military aircraft. You usually won't see combat aircraft, but will see A2A refueling, transports, utility aircraft.

I live right by one of Medflight's bases and the app is spot on for me. Even when they land at 11pm and rattle my windows the app has little if any delay in my experience.

Sometimes it's fun to view the Vegas area on FlightRadar's map and look for the Janet planes taking workers to Area 51. Surprisingly they do show up on FlightAware..sometimes.

Two I know of are N869HH and N319BD.

All my Filters are off ...Infact watched a Cape AIr 402 leave Nantucket and it picked up at 100 feet...
I'm going to go with the Army National Guard was not running A Civilian Transponder code on the 4 Black hawks and they flew along at the edge of Class D airspace they were using the Tacan at the USCG station for Navigation but were flying VFR.

A few years back I was flying with a Guy I know in his Cheetah and We left the Vinyard and by the time we got to New Bedford We found the
Transponder was still in Standby and the tower didnt know we were there bacause he was not on the PVD radar display in the tower.. Happens!
Note - The EWB Tower has a remote Display of the Providence Airspace radar...Its not the actual radar screen !

I watched a C-130 Last night leave Schenectady NY and buzz around the cape then head north so Military Aircraft Do show up When Running
A Transponder code.

It A fun App to use. Not Complaining .. Just wondering if anybody Else Encounters This.

That might explain not seeing the H60 out of Joint Base Cape Cod, although I see them frequently. However I also see the MSP, MedFlight, and Media helos.

One of the MSP helos has "SP" as the last to characters of the FAA number. Another has MM. The Medflight helos seem to have NE4x. Traffic helos are usually Robinson R44s. You can also recognize the TV station helos by their callsigns.

Apparently it's crappy weather for helos this morning as there aren't any in the air.

Planes are landing from the Northeast at Logan. Coming in over Peabody, Lynn, and Winthorp.

Yea the 355N is pretty crappy with its programming! But if want a set n forget box with only a handful of freq it works pretty well! Mine is set to 121.5 and the 2 uncontrolled fields near me! For that kind of limited service and when you find it used it’s a decent scanner!!!

I had the 350A which is an early version of the 355N...Found besides the odd duck way of programming it the Captain Crunch Squelch Sound was annoying... For Aircraft i'm Using the Uniden 15X for Home with A Discone which is great for VHF air and Military UHF air and the Uniden 125 as a Portable.
Its about location...Im Between Boston and New York so the Air traffic is heavy with Plenty to listen to.

Channel 12 in Providence hasn't had a chopper in over 10 years. All chopper vids on 12 are from pool feeds from Boston that fly down there.
Prior to that, 12 shared the ship with their sister station in New Haven WTNH.
See shows how old I am...I'm Time Traveling !
I look up I see a red one thats ch 5 and a Dark Blue one with Yellow letters Think thats Ch 4 WBZ...Remember ch 12 has a blue one too !
