Went down on 4/1 & 4/2 as start of vacation. Did the Victory Rover afternoon cruise on 4/2. A few new things
VICTORY ROVER CRUISE
462.5625 [69.3] - Victory Rover onboard ops...looks like BF888's possibly
156.375 MC67 - tug Lucky D. (Norfolk Tug) at NIT
156.250 MC05A - possibly tug Amy C. McAllister (works Columbia Freedom container barge between Norfolk, Baltimore & Philly)
157.225 [173.8] MC84A - mostly talk of barges, suspect Craney Island Fuel Depot
156.225 [118.8] MC64A - also seems barge-related. Also suspect Craney Island
156.575 MC71 - heard mostly around Lamberts & NIT south. Numbers mentioned in 78-80 range
156.950 MC19A - I usually hear SeaTow here, but this time foreign language. Lamberts Point coal pier and Lamberts Point docks each had two ships in port. All bulkers.
160.335 [d156] - Norfolk Southern. Have listed as TOFC channel at Portlock Yard but tend to hear more around Lamberts Point.
446.00625 [67.0] Ham freq in US, but is called PMR-1 in Europe. Assuming shipboard ops. Heard at NIT.
ELIZABETH RIVER PARK
156.350 MC07 - some kind of towing op near Gilmerton Bridge
156.450 MC09 - possibly Moran tugs bringing a tanker out of Atlantic Energy or IMTT. I normally expect McAllister to use this as a secondary, but none were on southern branch at the time.
467.900 {d244] - unk. licensed to Roanoke Cement
467.7625 [d644] - suspect Seagate Terminals (formerly TransMontaigne)
151.925 [173.8] - Old Cargill freq. Traffic related to ship, most likely Balsa 93 at Perdue
461.600 [d125] - lic. to Kerneos
461.9625 [179.9] - shipyard traffic, crane direction. Gotta be NASSCO Metro Machine
PORTSIDE
452.975 [d152] - building security. Appears to have 26 or more floors.
457.550 [CSQ] - bulker Balsa 93 onboard ops. Coming up Southern Branch from Perdue
Note that much of what I hear at Elizabeth River Park is also audible from Portside. Ships are pretty tall and radios carry pretty well.
JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
156.600 MC12 - Balsa 88 coming down James River from Hopewell, asking permission from Joint Harbor Operations Center to enter Inland Regulated Navigation Area. This was a lucky catch. Didn't know whether the pilot would contact them by radio or cellphone. James River Bridge is the boundary for the regulated area, and the ship called in about 30 min. out. Similar behavior to ships coming in from open sea. This was my Easter egg for 2018.
