Hey Chris.

I didnt realize that it was that long ago that LPS ditched their helicopter (project). My opinion is that they should still have the chopper and be using it.

i don't think lps need the chopper and if they did need one they could call in opp for air support this way it would save tax payers money on gas and salary for the piliot and co piliot

LPS would manage ok financially with their own chopper considering budgets theyve received over the last few years. It would make their job easier in alotta ways.

London wont have a heli again.
No reason for one here. Once a car hits the 401 its OPP area and LPS cant follow.
And for a chace only 3 cars are able to engage in a presuit, others can stange and such but not join in on the speeding around n such. So with all other units infront and all over the chopper is useless. More money to be spent for no reason,

And yeah bo to ENC, but LFS dont use them old channels anymore so thats just the good ole LPS digital voice channel now. HAZMAT is now on edacs

Why can't LPS follow? I've heard them do a vehicle stop (as a result of a pursuit) on Union Road near Shedden. That's pretty far out of London proper. Surprised their radios worked that far actually. I can't hear the system at all from my parents place in West Lorne (using an LPE200).

Just to go back to the original topic of this thread, there is *no* encryption being used by LFD. The old hazmat channel now belongs to EDACS site 4. Any digital traffic heard on there is LPS. LFD's radios are not digital, nor do they have encryption.

I hate to contribute to this getting further off topic but here goes,

It has to do with a provision in the criminal code that allows an officer to go out of there jurisdiction area as long as the pursuit is "fresh" or "hot" . now because the OPP is Ontario wide as far as there reach goes the can exercise their abilities anywhere, I've seen a lot if OPP traffic stops along exeter road right by the London detachment.

The LPS can go onto the 401 but just don't usually, and as far as the helicopter goes - if anybody remembers the Jewellery store that was robbed in white oaks mall a few years ago the OPP chopper managed to join in the pursuit fairly quickly ( that was a joint LPS/OPP pursuit as well if i remember correctly.)

Hi.

Hey Chris.

Im not sure if you've answered this before but when will that little glitch be fixed so that my HP-1 shows LPD on the encrypted channel instead of LFS Hazmat?

Sheldon.

That shouldn't show anymore, as the old fire system isn't used anymore. You can deprogram that system and just keep in the EDACS system.

The old Hazmat channel has been removed from the database, so I'm guessing it will disappear the next time your Home Patrol updates. And just a little further clarification... it isn't an encrypted channel. It's just one of the pool of frequencies used on that site. When LPS uses it, yes... it carries digital encrypted traffic. But if it gets assigned to any other user (works, fire etc) then you will hear normal analog traffic. That frequency is no different than any of the other voice frequencies in use.

For me, that's the biggest problem of the Home Patrol... You are at the mercy of a public database which may or may not be up to date and correct. That feature alone is the main reason I won't buy one. Once software comes out that let's me tinker with things to my liking, on my own, then that might be a different story!

Now that looks like the type of software that the radio should have shipped with in the first place. I see the author of FreeScan is working on a software package for the HP-1 as well.

I just ordered a 396XT, so I think I'll stick with my handhelds for now :)

Yup, me too. XT all the way :)

To keep this on topic, have the other LFD conventional channels been rolled into the EDACS as well?
