I was looking into getting a new Scanner in the London area. I have owned numerous scanners in the past, but I have never owned a scanner capable of Trunking.

I have been looking at the BC246T from Durham Radio and I am interested in listening to Air/Police/Fire/Ambulance in the London Area. I have heard from a friend that works for the City that they are using the Ericsson Trunking system.

I guess my question is, whether or not this is a good radio for this area and whether or not I will be able to listen to this type of traffic? Also where is a good place to get frequencies for this area?

Thanks for all your help people :D

This is the only link I have found for London Frequencies. The date shows 2000 so I am sure that these are still in current use. Does anyone have anymore? These pretty much cover what I am looking for though.

Does anyone have the tower info for these trunks? I really don't know what I am talking about when I write that though, I have just read that you need them.

If someone has a config that they want to share in this area it would be greatly appreciated.

Durham Radio says that they are sold out of the BC246's and that they will give me a call in the first 2 weeks of January when they get more in. :D

I actually still have a Realistic Pro-2002, but I am really interested in the trunked stuff, mostly Fire Police and EMS. Does anyone in London have the BC246T that posts here?

Thanks for the help guys. 8)

There is a guy who has a 246 here, I am sure that he will respond, he seems very helpful.

London does use a Erricson system. I think that the LPD uses pro-voice which means you cannot monitor them. The MOH and OPP use Fleetnet.

If you want to monitor talk groups that the OPP use get a digital scanner, a Pro 96 or a BC296 are the portables, there are 'desktop' models from both Uniden and R/S. I have scanners from both companies and currently use a 296.

If you dont care about the OPP then a 246 might be the way 2 go. I'd love to get one but I cannot justify spending $ on that scanner since its not digital.

There are posts on this site that give the pros and cons regarding Uniden and R/S models. Check 'em out and good luck.

P.S. Use this websites database and join the Yahoo group for Ontario, the best sources of info on our hobby.

Thanks for the help Eric. Does your BC296 handle pro-voice? I have never heard of that before?

Can anyone in London confirm this regarding the London Police Dept.

Thanks agian for all the help guys!

The 246 isn't that different than the other analog trunking scanners out there in price really.

No scanner will do Pro Voice at the moment

What that is is basically encrypted comm's you will still be able to monitor the fire, ambulance etc on the system.

I to am curious if the police are completely Pro voice or just for the sensitive stuff.

142.875 is not the London Police. The London Police are on a Edacs 800MHz trunk system.

The frequency that you are hearing is on the Provincal VHF trunk system which includes the OPP, MTO roads, MTO Enforcement, MNR and London city ambulance

Hey Rouse,

I'm also here in London and may be able to help you out. I use a BCT-8, BC780, Pro96 and a 246T for my everyday scanning. In a nutshell, London Fire is Motorola 800mhz trunked, and London Police is on the city EDACS system. They are indeed digital and no current scanner can monitor them. As for the link you posted for London frequencies, most of those are out of date or just plain incorrect. If there is anything in particular you are looking for by all means let me know and I'll see if I can help you out. Anyways, back to your original question, the 246 is a very nice little radio. If you have no interest in scanning the OPP it would work very nicely for you. I use mine to listen to city ems on Fleetnet, London Fire, city works on the EDACS system, and a whack of conventional frequencies. If you do wish to monitor the OPP (and other digital stuff on Fleetnet) you would want to go with the Pro96 or one of the digital Uniden scanners. Hope that helps a little!

That would be great Forts if you don't mind. I just downloaded the demo for Arc246 form this site, looks a little complicated but I am sure there is a help file.

Just wondering if the London Fire Dept is still Analog too?

Thanks :D

Yes they are. The only digital in the immediate London area is LPD and OPP.
