I need to know the name of a long range radio scanner that would be strong enough to monitor a cell phone conversation at a range of 40-50 miles from the scanner. It must also be a scanner that has the possibility of a cell phone band block modification. (as far as deactivating the block). The reasons that I want a scanner of this nature are purely legal. I do not intend to illegally eavesdrop on the cellband. However any info you guys could supply would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Can not be purely legal...it's illegal to monitor the cell band. That's why it's been blocked.

Cliff Notes Version: No Way Jose! No Way Hose B. Illegal, too expensive, restricted purchasing, and totally inappropriate for we mere mortals without established, validated need to know. These issues are well-established under existing laws. Review the topics listed above for your further edification.

i think you are gonna try listening to cell phone calls, ya know why? cuz there really is no reason to have a scanner with those freqs unblocked if your not, and even if you find a scanner that has that portion unblocked, you're not gonna be able to hear a conversation unless you have 2 scanners (both unblocked, and on 2 different freqs), AND both cell phones in the conversation are in analog mode, which nowadays is very VERY rare, my cell phone doesnt even go into analog when i roam anymore, i dont remember the last time i saw analog mode, ALSO, someone correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt the cell phone have to transmit 40-50 miles??? that is nearly impossible

Spirit, if you had a valid and legal reason to monitor cell phone frequencies you would know what equipment is available and who it is available to. In other words, YOU'RE BUSTED, no answer forthcoming.

Check out the AOR Unobtainium.

Gotta love first posts like that. What are you going to do for an encore?

Ask where they can get the same equipment the NSA uses in ECHELON

I wish RR would require new posters to read a FAQ and then check mark indicating that they read through it before being allowed to post here.

Won't be for long. You have not been able to even buy an analog phone in several years.
