For the past few weeks I have been using a long wire antenna with my BCD 436 HP. My results have been very good. Can receive both sides of many analog transmissions that I may have only heard the dispatch. Has almost totally eliminated simulcast distortion. I know that antennas are supposed to be resonant for the frequency. But I would recommend anyone with a long wire antenna try it with your scanner.

Have a short length old tv cable with bc9 adapter on one end of the wire and some random lengths of 16ga wire splice together in my attic about 60 ft long . Made improvements on the marine band can hear ship to dispatch before could hear just dispatch. On the airband its receiving ground communication at 2 different airports that I would just receive the tower . The 2 meter ham band it is picking up some repeaters from NY that I didn't receive . And the p25 local public service it has reduced the simulcast distortion before i would move the discone antenna around to reduce it. Thought the wire would make it worse but it didn't.
