• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

No really good description. The flashcode is horrible and says new. Parts built. Most likely stolen parts out of the radio room.

No tags shown or even none at all. Scary

Asked questions about this radio and get even get any pictures of the codeplug. Don't know the feature set and the flashcode. No info on either its been CPS or Depot or bluetooth or any MACE hardware. Scary when buying these radios. Most likely its a good parts built radio but not worth taking any chances for a personal radio. Plus who in the heck would want to buy a quad band Model II radio. Makes no sense.

The only thing sexy about the radio is the green housing. HAHA

And only 91.1 positive feedback. Your buying the seller as much as the radio. Yes I bought my 8Kxe on fleabay, but it was from Rick Thompson and the firmware has been updated (by myself) at least 3 times from my legit MOL account.

Yup. There are only about two dealers I would deal with on Flee-Bay and he is 1 of them that is a good seller.

Oh boy I cant wait to see what the chinese cook up for aftermarket APX parts, in fact there already out there, cheapo chin-plastic replacements but not as much as right now you can have an HT1250 put in any shade of color housing you wish, including clear. How'd you like to spend a few grand on an apx with a chin-plastic housing, cheap print rubbed off keypad, and a chin-antenna that falls apart in 30 days, let alone its RF characteristic are that of a wet string

Now you know why the "big bad wolves" roll eyes everytime some IDIOT with no business/experience buys one of these road apples, and using STOLEN software, then illicitly programs such radios, unauthorized, onto public safety systems.

and you wonder why products like the APX NEXT are completely cloud programmed, bye bye STOLEN DEPOT SOFTWARE kiddies. Game over.

Is that the only programming capability that exists for the APX NEXT? Because that's pretty cool from a change management and software delivery perspective. However, that's going to seriously limit the market when RFPs start to require air-gapped capabilities for programming delivery.

Security consultants are going to give a real hard look at that....

I think Kenwood has figured out to keep their software secure now. I believe it all has to be registered to function via online activation.

You can get a private cloud. If the customer demands it loud enough, M will do a backflip for enough dollars. My guess will be that the air gapped customers will have their own management server inside their private cloud. The management server is first licensed via the web, then is dropped offline into the customer private network where is cooks up its magic. We do it like that now with Radio Management and Capacity Max. TT

I think what you're seeing is a transition product to SaaS. RadioCentral + cloud based + LTE is a vendor controlled from end to end experience.
Yeah, that won't get cracked / reverse engineered. Ever. Right?
It doesn't matter, the idea is to deflate the aftermarket (used radios) for networks. No different than Apple does with iOS. Walled garden and any device that is compromised can't be provisioned, therefore diminishing it's resale value.
I knew when I threw my fishing line out with a nice worm it was going to get bitten. The wolves can't resist when they are hungry.
So don't get bitten.
Cloud-based programming is a feature I'd expect from a consumer radio, not a public safety radio.
The future is what the market demands. Many customers (with the budget accordingly) want a hands off, "one stop" approach. Cloud based makes sense. Talk to anyone with a large fleet of thousands of subscribers to manage. This is their dream come true. They can eliminate FTEs and let the vendor drive for a flat fee.

So don't get bitten.

You can't get bitten with a trunking personality behind a conventional personality.
