i want to get a good scanner for the home. i've been lurking a bit here and see the uniden sds200 might fit. i'm in the vegas/clark co., area. i've been informed that most of the public safety here is on digital p25. and of course LV Metro is encrypted. casinos, hotels and the like do use DMR & NXDN.

i have a wide band Jetstream JTD-2 discone 25 to 1.3 GHz base antenna on the roof. not sure if it's all that good compared to others. i've used it to play around with SDR apps to some success.

for now, with that antenna, I suppose the sds200 can make use of it?
also, i'm going to need to add the DMR&NXDN options i guess and that will increase the cost of the sds200.

anyone here in the my area that uses the sds200 and find it does well & money well spent?

Since you are looking for comments from users in your area, I'd suggest that you click on the Report link in the lower left corner of your post. That will give you a 'Report Content' pop-up, where you can request that a moderator move your post to the state forum.

My SDS200 does a good job here in the DFW metro area, and likely would do well in your area as well.

My SDS100 and 200 performed great in the Minneapolis metro when I was down there. DMR audio is fair, it doesn't have automatic gain control so some people will blow your ears out and others will be whisper quiet, much like analog FM. Same can be said for NXDN. I like the fact that it skips over encrypted P25, so you don't have to listen to the buzzing and garbled noises. Not sure if it does it for DMR/NXDN also, never ran across any encrypted channels in those formats.

LTR works okay, but not great. I just use my PRO-92 for LTR systems. Haven't tried the old Motorola 3600 (Type I or II) or EDACS systems so I can't give you any analysis on that.

I +1 moving your thread to the Nevada forum. They could help you more than I could.

SDS works fantastically in the Vegas area except for NSRS EDACS where it's temperamental.

With the Radioshack antenna I can pull most casinos from a surprisingly far distance, and SNACC simulcast works fantastic anywhere in the city. Even with the CH32 Comet it works very well but forget about NSRS with it.

It works good enough that I carry it in lieu of signing out an agency radio when I am riding with some of our guys as an observer, since I am just listening anyways.

This is for the SDS100 handheld - depending on where you put your 200, if you have a good antenna you should be able to pull just about anything, including NSRS without issue. YMMV.

I use SDS200 at home in Vegas with a Discorn antenna on the roof. No issues. I'm very happy with it.

this is great to hear!! i haven't purchased it yet. sort of deciding between the SDS100 or SDS200. more likely the SDS200...soon. as i and another here posted, my antenna i would use, at least for now, is a discone on roof of one story home. it is hooked into some other SDR tuners that does decent.

thank you for your post & my apology for such a delay in reply as surgery slowed me up a bit.
