Me and a few buddies of mine are going to the pine barrens next week and I was looking at picking up some 2 way radios....Any ideas on some decent ones under $100?

You do NOT need a license to transmit on the FRS frequencies, however they are extremely weak and sometimes don't even work more than 1,000 feet away. I used them once in a mall and once my friend went to the other side of the mall, the radios couldn't reach. Regarding GMRS, you need a license (which is an expensive fee to the FCC) and to fill out some very annoying paperwork. My suggestion, just study for the HAM radio written test for your Technician license. Then purchase a couple of reasonable priced 2 meter HAM radios and communicate on simplex or an open repeater not being used.

Cell phones...they'll probably work even in the pine barrens.

If not, the FRS radios will work fairly well outside.

If you have Nextels, try the direct talk feature...

Just a couple of ideas.

Cell phones would be great but I wanted to get some radios anyway.. I have put some thought into it and really want to put a radio in my truck that could go for a few miles. Me and a few buddies were talking last night about getting the gmrs license and putting some radios in our trucks so we can bs over them. I know i can get my license through the fcc website and it only takes about a week or two to receive it. My question is how good of a distance can u get and what radios do you recommend. My ham is next and I have no clue on how to go about that?.. I am a little new to this stuff. I have used a scanner for a long as I can remember and now I want to starting used radios..

Go onto E-Bay.You can get a pair of P200's(That talk to each other) for around that price.
Remember:the only one who needs a license,is the person who gets caught. The FCC have Bigger Fish to fry then someone w/2 WT'S.and even if you get caught,it's only a slap on the wrist.Ie;stop useing them!!!!!!!

The higher the frequencies, such as GMRS or FRS, the more problems you'll have operating in dense foilage. You'd be better off using MURS radios since they operate in VHF. You still will not get anywhere near 1+ mile range unless one or both parties are high on a hill with line-of-sight.
