The BCD 436 can use the free Sentinel software direct from Uniden.
The Sentinel software is easy to use also and there is not much of a learning curve. I use it to update and program my 536HP (base station version). When I first got the 536, I could not believe how easy it was to program. I was up and running within a couple of hours, which included unboxing the radio and downloading/installing Sentinel.

Agreed, while I personally prefer ProScan now, (partially due to sentinel not working on the laptop I currently have) I'd likely use it anyway at least for updates (mandatory) and such. Sentinel was how it all got started however for me on both the 436 (now sold) and 536.

There is a Amazon resale available for $398.00, which is just $50 more than the BCD325P2. Before I order would this be a better deal?

Is the setup for this radio the same as the 325P2? It uses ARC XT Basic software?
The $400 is a good price for the 436. And as K9KLC stated, it uses the free Senitnel software. Which provides both firmware updates and when you update the RRDB, an up to date database too.

Good choices on scanners on here. I run a Uniden Bearcat 996p2. You have to purchase the DMR, NXDN, etc options but it comes with P25. You have mostly P25 down there so you should be good. I live in the hole here in Thorndike (northeast of you) and can hear Augusta PD and FD along with Waterville PD all on their digital systems very well. You may have an issue with Kennebec Sheriff. For some reason it seems like no matter what P25 receiving device I have tried, their digital has an issue coming through clear. Sometimes it works for a few transmissions, other times it is broken clicks and garbled mess. I have even gone mobile and it is very broken. Not sure what is going on there. For digital stuff, I would advise staying focused on P25 and DMR. They seem to be the popular ones

My BCD436HP has finally arrived. I haven't had a chance to set it up yet.
Is the a good case available for it? I won't have it out a lot, but would like to find something to protect when I do.

I finally got the Sentinel app installed. I see Kennebec County, how do I get these loaded on to the scanner?
Right-click the department(s) you want. Left-click "Append to Favorites List". When you've added everything you need & assuming you know how to connect scanner so Sentinel sees it (Mass storage mode) then choose Scanner (menu)> Write to Scanner

Easier to Read manual for your perusal:

I already have most everything for Kennebec County in an Excel file which I can paste into the ARC XT software. I also have all of the talkgroups for the MSCommNet statewide trunked system. i am currently working on amateur radio and railroad frequencies in your area and possibly VHF marine band for the Kennebec River.
Could you post or send these to me, please?

I did this. I did Gardiner and Augusta. It scans back and forth between Gardiner and Augusta but never receives any transmission. I'm not sure if I missed something. I put Kennebec in favorites.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
