Hi all, I'm looking at buying a new scanner and want to upgrade to a digital/P25 since the county I live in is all digital. My question is what is a good one to buy that is simple to program and operate and won't break me?

I would get a Uniden BCD396XT if you only need to decode P25 Phase I. I don't trust the newest scanners out of Uniden. Too many issues with their quality control. Search the forum for all the posts. Not to mention the 396XT is cheaper too.

The 396XT is a beast though. Great little scanner. I love mine. I like to listen to the Highway Patrol and Fort Leonard Wood's digital systems with it.

Here's some light reading for you that will help you immensely if you buy the 396XT:

Fortunately, GA
Smith county has Phase I TGID's. They are not Phase II yet. Check in the TX state forum for any updates to your county.
