I used to have a frequency in a scanner that broadcasted fire events live....I cant remember which one it is......it was a UHF freq.....does anyone have a suggestion for a good fire buff freq?
NYC Citywide uses 461.225 (CTSSS 167.9), but looks like you are too far away to hear them. Not much activity anyway, except for occasional radio checks at 8AM and the like. I hear them strong from my QTH.
There is another in LI on DMR but usually encrypted.

As you can tell by the confirmation dates they haven't been updated in a while. It is unlikely there isn't much active traffic up there any more. Like mentioned Zello has taken over a good chunk of buff groups now.
And as far as the media is concerned, none of the local TV stations in Rhode Island use two ways anymore.
WPRI had a repeater for their former helicopter on the Superman building, and at one point a buff group was using it until it got unplugged.
WJAR and WLNE haven't had radios in years.
