• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone knowledgeable about someone in the Travis County (Texas) area that has a KVL or KFD and wouldn't mind loading some DES keys for me.

I've got an APX and XTS4k I'd like loaded.

Also on that same subject, what would be the likelyhood of finding a dealer that can load the DES algo onto my XTS4000? Not looking for AES. I've got a 4k keyload cable for the KFD on the way.

Its gonna be a really hard find especially since those were tools not designed for use by the general public. You can find them on eBay, but prices are wildly variable and a good one with accessories can fetch well over $1500. People on eBay might provide mail in key-loading services, but from what I've heard the coporate fellas at HQ don't generally like listings for services floating around their website.

Also, good luck finding a dealer to load a DES key. AES has been the standard for quite some time now.

Yea, I'm just looking for a onetime load. What's the average price of the AES algo?

Obviously some of you jumped to a conclusion upon reading the OP's post. He isn't asking for anyone to give him agency keys, he's just asking someone who might be local to (generate and) load a DES key for him. What's so wrong with that?

OP: Search for Rick Thompson on eBay, he could probably add DES for you, IF the APX has a MACE installed. You would have to ship the radio to him, but he's a good guy.

A concern here is that the OP is asking for someone to “load some keys”. I guess clarification should be made as to whether there is a specific key(s) that he wants loaded or just a randomly generate one. That makes a big difference.

Someone working on the inside of an agency might have handed him a post it note with the keys. That would be problematic.
