It's a standard full pin mini USB cable, not micro or C. Some cables are only 2 wired that only charge a cellular phone, don't buy any of those. It should be a 4 wire data cable.

Thanks, I have a lot of cables I'll try but I didn't know how important the thingofabob in the middle of the original cable was. My GRE PSR 500 cable has a fancy thing in the middle with a visible microchip in it.

The "thingofabob" on your TRX-1 cable is simply a ferrite core, to help reducing interfering signals that might be introduced to the scanner via the cable.

You can see the same thing on other cables, such as this Monoprice cable available from Amazon, or direct from Monoprice.
I use one of these for my TRX-1, as well as the various Uniden scanners with mini-USB ports. It's available in varying lengths from 1.5 to 15 feet.

The 'big thing' on the cable for your PSR-500, as well as the other GRE/Whistler pbject oriented scanners, is the circuitry to create a serial port for the scanner to access your PC. The Uniden USB-1 also has that addition, but its not as large or prominent as what you see on the GRE/Whistler cables.
