• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We bought the radio used about 6 months ago and has been in service since then. Last week user noticed the power up beep was unusually low in volume, soon afterwards he saw that the volume was way down for voice also. A day later hr was showing someone the problem and it worked fine, for a few days.. With the volume wide open, on my bench you can barely hear any radio traffic at all.
I took the covers off and re-flowed some solder joints that looked suspect, but I'm more of a programmer t

I've replaced 20+ speakers on those radios. It's a very common failure, but it was always completely dead. Maybe the guys waited until it was completely failed before they brought it in for repair. Or maybe you have a different issue.

Do you have an external speaker you could try? There's a 3.5 mono jack on the back. That's always a good way to prove a bad speaker! IDK about USA dealers, but most Canadian Kenwood dealers will probably have those speakers in stock. or you could try online. Or use an external speaker instead.

Another thing I could suggest on that one is to carefully remove the front board and reseed the connectors at each end of that flat cable and make sure no screws inside are loose. Like they don't have to be super tight, but screws that are like multiple full turns loose can cause issues.

Maybe bad 12v supply too? Like if you don't Tx with this radio it would be harder to notice because that's the most power hungry function. Audio is the 2nd most power hungry thing, but much much less so.

Good luck!

Sorry for the delay... I have tried an external speaker and it sounds the same, I'll try the cables tomorrow. The power was good in the truck and on my bench...Thanks
