Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I found an LTR System in my area. I recieved a fax from the radio sales company which provided me with the frequencies and LCN's. However, next to each frequency, there was either a letter C or a letter K. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what these letters mean.

Yes, I have heard communications over most all of the frequencies (15 in all), a mixture of the Cs and Ks.

After looking at the system here on the Database. And looking at the FCC data I see nothing that seems to indicate what it could be. Probably just something internal for them. :?

I'm gonna take a WAG at this going from my own experience.
We have a couple of LTR systems in different areas, and instead of having two different "frequency/ channel number" lists, we put them all in one list.
So repeaters 2,6,10,14,& 18 were all at one site, while repeaters 3,7,11,15,& 19 were at another.
This allowed us to program one "site" in all radios, but depending on where they were "homed", determined which site they used.
Perhaps they do something similar? Maybe not. Just my Wild A$$ Guess.

On a 1 site system?

Bill, if you are going to go back and bring up old topics, at least read the entire topic before commenting. And speaking of reading, please go to this Announcement Topic and read through it. 8)

Another guess:

Maybe some repeaters are dual mode LTR/conventional.

Dave,

That is a pretty good guess and one we didn't think of before.

Unless the original poster comes back to the topic, I guess we may never know for sure.

Hello,

When I was doing a UHF bandscan with LTRDump I came across a repeater that was conventional and the user had a PL tone. During the repeater hang time the repeater sent Regular LTR idle frames. It was weird.

I found out the repeater was using a Passport LTR controller which can control Regular LTR and Conventional Repeaters as well. Channels can have mixed use. I think my area has a few other Regular LTR systems using a Passport controller because the CW ID is group 255 and not 253 or 254.

Home Channels can not be on mixed use channels so if the C represents mixed Conventional/Regular LTR then only the K repeaters are protential home repeaters.

I will be in LA and Southern Texas in the fall. Maybe I will get a chance to run LTRDump on the system.

Well, you are welcome to stop reading it if you are no longer interested. So far, nobody has posted an authoritative answer to the original question. Let's hold off on stopping discussion until somebody who really knows for sure can tell us what the C and K actually mean.

Actually, I want it locked so in another few months someone doesn't bring it back from the dead.

Since your desire runs counter to the webmaster's, I guess we won't worry about you showing up at the next Moderator/Administrator picnic.

Trolling for old topics and just posting for posting's sake is not good, coming up with information that is on topic and adds to the information is good.

Nobody asked you to post you off topic comment, nobody asked you to post the above comment. Nobody twisted your arm to even read the topic. Since apparently this topic is not interesting to you there is a simple solution. Go to the bottom and click on the Stop watching this topic link. Then just ignore it. :?

Wow, I have to say you just made my "Dumbest Post" winner for the month. Good work! Here is your 'Scratch & Sniff' sticker now STFU.

Lets all vote to get rid of the search so people continually repost the same questions....
