Lubbock police

today was the first time ive listened to the lubbock police in a while and I noticed that they have changed all of their call signs instead off 1100 or 1200 or 2100 and 2200 they are now using 1a-1e and 2a-2e followed by a double digit number of some sort any reason as to why they changed their call signs that they call in with

DPS did something similar. From 3609 to 3A609. I don’t know the reason though....

In DPS' case, it was to easily identify the region/sub region/sergeant area (3E5 is Cotulla Sgt Area, 6C1 is Boerne Sgt Area, etc...)

When I lived in the Bryan/CS area, BPD used 4-9 for beat/rover and A/Z for individual unit

Based on your example above, I would venture to say that:

1/2 are North/South (or vice versa), and A-E are beats, with the two digit numbers being the officers.

the daytime units are 1a-1d
the overnight units are 2a-2d
motorcycle traffic units are 5t
k9 units are now 5k
and I can't figure out who the Sierra units would be

Sgts ? I thought that there were 3 shifts. Did LPD go to two shifts?
Some previous ids are 5echo5-armoured vehicle, 5Lima 4X-LISD, 5mike1X-city marshals, 5charley4X- Cooper ISD,9Mike50-mall security.

supposedly lubbock police is supposed to be going to 3-4 sub stations in the future so idk if thats the reasoning for the new ids and the cheif is the same he's been there for awhile.......as far as the shifts go they went from 3-8hours shifts to 2-12 hour shifts and as far as Lubbock ISD an lubbock Cooper and the city marshals those radio ids have always been that way and lubbock Cooper reports to Lubbock County not lubbock police.....but id still like to know why they changed them I mean would it be easier to alpha tag them in your scanner with them having ids this way....

Many times this is due to new CAD software. The 1A, 2b, etc. is becoming common. One of the characters usually indicates the shift for patrol. Shifts > 3 usually indicate a fixed unit number.

with the cad software does it make it less radio traffic...the reason im asking is I hardly ever hear lubbock police like I used to it just seems as if they are silent more often than they used to
