Hi - Recently, I'm unable to hear any Lyndhurst PD radio traffic. I have a Uniden digital scanner and pick up the Lyndhurst FD TG just fine. I've checked the RR database and the frequencies that I have programmed into my scanner have not changed. It appears that the Lyndhurst PD have moved to a different system. Any suggestions on where I can get information on this? I'd appreciate any assistance. Thank you!

Thanks to both of you for responding to my post. I've entered the correct talk group and can once again hear my local PD. I've gotten a little better at navigating the RR database, more specifically, the MARCS database. On that note, if I may, I have a couple of follow up questions I'd like to ask as it relates to my geographical location (Lyndhurst). I live in what is considered the "Hillcrest" area and the area that surrounds us is considered the "Heights" area. The Hillcrest area encompasses suburbs such as Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Richmond Heights, Mayfield Village, Beachwood, Gates Mills, etc. I'm still trying to find the TG's for Beachwood and Gates Mills. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated. As far as the Heights goes, I noticed that Shaker Heights PD, University Heights PD, Cleveland Heights PD as well as Richmond Heights PD are part of the GCRCN system. Richmond Heights is actually considered part of the Hillcrest area but is listed under both the MARCS and the GCRCN systems. My question is: Will the TG's under the GCRCN work on the MARCS system? I miss the days when everyone was on UHF, the audio was much better. :) Thanks again for helping me out. Chris R, KE8CSM, Lyndhurst, Ohio.

Gates Mills PD is on Chagrin Valley Dispatch East Ch.1 (TG 14492)
Beachwood/Pepper Pike PD Dispatch (TG 13624)
Both are on the Ohio MARCS-IP system.

Thanks Tom, this helps a lot. I have another question if you can help: I have all of the Freq's loaded in my scanner for the South Euclid Lyndhurst City Schools. I got the freq info from the FCC tab on the RRDB. However, I can't seem to find them listed in the general database so no PL or DPL code info. While I'm scanning, it will occasionally land on one of their freq's, but all I can hear is the sound when you are trying to monitor a analog channel and the freq is actually digital. You get that "banging" sound. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

Try emailing the Transportation Director and maybe he will give you your answer. It is possible they are on a DMR system.

Good luck with that. I have yet to meet a school administrator who knows anything about their radio system than than 1) turn it on and 2) push the button on the side to talk.

If the OP is hearing digital noise, make sure the mode is set to Auto. At least that way if it’s a digital mode the radio can receive, it should come through. Based on the emission type, my guess is that it’s DMR.

Which scanner do you have and do you have the DMR upgrade? The frequencies are probably using DMR.

Hi - Thanks for the response. My scanner is a Uniden SDS100. As far as the DMR upgrade, I'm not sure. I've had the scanner for a few years and have only updated the firmware. I'm a ham and the sound that I'm hearing is definetly digital. I double checked the mode and it is set to auto. I'm going to reach out to the transportation person next week. If he can provide the radio vendor that they use, I should be able to contact them for the info. Thanks again to everyone for your asssitance! 73's Chris KE8CSM

North Coast Two Way sold the radios & prepared the FCC license. As North Coast is a Motorola dealer it's pretty much guaranteed that this is a MotoTrbo (DMR) system. I would be surprised if the radio dealer provides any details, they tend to be protective of customer info.

DMR is a paid option for your SDS, here's how to check if your scanner has it: SDS100 with DMR?

If you bought the scanner new and didn't purchase the upgrade from the dealer or do it yourself, you do not have the DMR upgrade. You pay extra for that. To double check, do this on the scanner: Press MENU > Scroll to Settings > Press E > Scroll to Upgrade > Press E > Scroll to DMR/MotoTRBO > Press E > If scanner has the DMR upgrade, you will get a message that it has already been activated > If asked to enter the key, you do not have the upgrade > Press AVOID to exit the menu.

Thanks, I checked and I'm going to have to purchase the upgrade. Also, I spoke to someone in the Transportation department yesterday and they said that they have switched all of their systems to digital. Thanks again to everyone for all of the great advice! 73's, Chris KE8CSM.

Glad to hear you heard from the Lyndhurst Transportation. I have found Lyndhurst public servants to always be friendly to the public. Known many of them over the past 60 years!
