• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have 5 M100 models for UHF 450-whatever... I do not yet know what frequency/ies they are currently set to use. Would these radios have crystals, or would be programmed via a computer using the RIB and Moto software? Typically what does this cost to have someone program and if the local dealer will not do it, is it something that a Amateur Radio club could help with?

They are programmed using Motorola software and a RIB/cable setup.

Motorola software packages usually run about $265.00, but going through MOL, I don't see it. It appears that it is no longer sold by Motorola.

You can either use a RIB-less cable or you can pick up a cheap RIB off of Ebay.

It would use either the Maxtrac or Radius software which Motherola no longer sells. Legally, there pretty much isn't any way to obtain it, illegally . . . . . . . :D

M100 is a basic Radius mobile radio. Great little radios.
Programmed with RSS which runs in DOS only.

Look for radmbl.exe and the rest of the files that go with it.

You will need a Radio Interface Box, aka RIB, and a simple cable.

Some info on repeater-builder.com and Batlabs. com

I thank you all for the tips and info. I am going to have to bite the bullet and leave this stuff to the pros. I would imagine most /\/\ dealers would have kept this stuff layin' around. I am scared of bricking units. Perhaps if I find some on Ebay for $25 or so I will play with it a bit. Would love to try building my own repeater one day.

Motorola dealers will have the sw, but they won't sell it. They will, however, pull out that old 286 machine and program it for you, at a cost!

Can't brick a M100 programming, at least not very easy you would really have to be trying to....

One of these easiest in the dash mount series to program.
