A spokesperson from Ma/com says part of the reason why there is interference gap with the radios for the new statewide system operating in Buffalo, ny is interference from 1part Canadian tv station and cell towers.

Question comes to mind what Tv station would this be in Canada?

Officials from M/A-Com expressed confidence the issues could be addressed, and said problems in Buffalo had been caused by interference from other radio transmissions. The system has been tested in neighboring Chatauqua County, which is mainly rural, and officials there had no complaints, said Victoria Dillon, an M/A-Com spokeswoman.

The gaps were “localized in a few sites, like cell carriers, a TV station in Canada,” Ms. Dillon said.

Michael R. Mittleman, the state official overseeing the project for the Office of Technology, agreed.

This looks like a high noise floor combined with the-repeater-site-is-too-far-away issue.

Also known as the "it's not that we don't have enough repeater sites, it's that nobody else should have any transmitters" excuse.

The only TV station in Fort Erie appears to be Global's CIII-55 at ~720 MHz.

Shoul have....

They should have gone with MOTO....

Isn't MA / Com the formerly GE / GE Erikson / GE-NBC.....radio company?

When Ohio started their MARCS program, I believe they looked at GE but didn't like what they saw....Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that, but, I think they even wanted BOTH companies to work on the system but one or the other didn't want to play well...

"TRADE SECRETS" or some such nonsense!!!!

Well, it was my understanding, that Moto, did place a bid, but Ma/Com was lower in cost. Whether or not Ma/Com can get this working is a different story. Its one of those things that once it implemented, it would cost about the same as if moto was to do it , After all the bugs, if they can be worked out with Ma/Com. It's what i call a bandaid network. test then patch, test then patch, and so on.

MA/Com more often has the low bid. But, in the long run, MA/COM ends up with WAY more than the initial bid because they only bid on the bare basics and NEVER take in to consideration that coverage/technology is always changing. So what if they were the low bidder. If every government agency always went with the low bidder, the federal government (for example) wouldn't be paying a boat load of $$$ for a toilet seat. They could go to the local hardware store and purchase one for a lot cheaper.

Before going with lowest bidder, check out qualifications, company history (I wouldn't have chosen MA/COM due to the massive cluster that's been going on in Pennsylvania with thier system), and if it's project 25 compliant (which, I don't think OpenSky is) as requested by the federal government for interoperability.

No OpenSky is not P25 compliant which leaves people living in PA in the dark as far as listening to their state agencies.

I hate to keep bringing Ohio up, but, Ohio law allows the gov't to take the "Lowest and BEST" bid, not just the LOWEST.

So, looking at a companies track record will allow us in Ohio to take the better bid even though it ISN'T the actual lowest!!!
