Hmm... I've been around scanners, radios, Indyscan, RR, and volunteer services for decades, and have never seen or heard of these frequencies. It makes me wonder who are these "fire depts throughout the state" that use these freqs;.....unless that's an open invitation for anyone to use them. (?)

I think the only depts in Indiana that use them are in Lake and maybe Porter Counties. I know IFD and other depts in the metro area don't use them

What the heck is IFERN? 🤣 In the past 30 years I've never heard of such a thing. Those frequencies are not in any EOCs, PSAPs, or fire stations that I've seen.

It stands for the Interagency Fire Emergency Radio Network. IFERN is mainly an Illinois and Wisconsin thing, but was originally called NIFERN (the 'N' and 'I' standing for Northern Illinois) since it was originally used by fire depts in Chicago's north suburbs and northern IL for mutual aid purposes.
