• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Which Maco VFO are you asking about, more than one type was made. Depending on your knowledge level, it could be attached to various radios "back in the day".

LOL...ok that's a great way to get help when you didn't even state which Maco VFO you were asking about. However, my answer stands, yes back in the crystal days, depending on your knowledge level, it would work on a "lot" of the older 23 channel radios and even 5 channel crystal type radios. I had one on a Johnson Messenger 1, the old white face.

I'm 61, retired, and a veteran of over thirty years on the street, so not a "young guy. Telling someone to "educate" themselves is a passive aggressive way of calling someone stupid, so good luck with your search.
I'm sure in your lifetime, you've spun way more "VFO's" than he has as have I. 73 to you out there. I'm sure this post won't yield much help...
try looking that up or google and educate your self
As he said to you, might be the best course for him...

The correct English pronunciation is, in fact, googol but the company is Google. I know this well because I had to write many many search warrants to Google and they would refuse them if the name was spelled wrong. Pedantic little suckers!

I just looked it up on Google and there are are plenty of discussions on the Maco VFO and the radios it was used with. Took about 3 seconds. Why didn't you do that in the first place?

Pedants make the best target for agitation and a massive dose of their own medicine. We're irritating as hell, but supremely useful against other pedants.

I'm 60, and that just makes us the young guys in some of these threads! 🤣

But, you know what? "Go educate yourself", even when said sarcastically, is always great advice. Doesn't have to be on the topic of the thread, just get more info. Have more education and knowledge than the harridans and ostlers that wish to keep you in the quagmire of their ignorance.

Sometimes people don't follow their own advice it's easier to tell people (just google it) even when not doing it themselves.

Exactly, and they don't possess the self-awareness of how it makes them look to others. Just one of the many annoyances in life, albeit a minor one in this case.

Excellent. Took it waaay off topic. As a response to a poorly-worded request for help was met . . but a too-snappy “thank you” issued.

Radio . . By pedantry shall they know thee.

Am I the only one looks forward to the closet wrangling gets underway at QRZ? Thumps and Bumps in The Night. 147-posts on Grounding/NEC Code with three complete arguments circling around.

Not immune to it, mind you.
Squirrely energy gotta go somewhere.

Good luck on the VFO, OP.

That is an older VFO intended for a few select CB base radios. Except for the Browning golden eagle, you have to be a tech to install it.
Better off getting a 10/11 ham rig, or a few can be modded for 11 meters.
