To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anybody know anything about these? Never seen this combo before. I recently picked one up locally for $10.

No part number on it anywhere, and my g00gle-foo is bringing up nothing. It looks like the old President base station external speakers, but with a power supply built in also. I did look up the Motorola 2N3771 transistor on the back. That info claims 40V / 30A. The fuse is also a 30A. Could this really be a 25-30A supply? It’s half the size of my Astron RS-35M. If it is actually 25-30A i’d be impressed. Either way it's cool, and i think i got a hell of a deal.

Oddly there was no power switch. It was always on unless you unplugged it. I fixed that today by adding a push button toggle on the side. (y)

I know what you meant. Linking the array of products is to spark searches for others which go out-of-route before getting back on the main road.

It’s an interesting piece. Force looks like a product line which survived over time.

And maybe it’s DIY.

Possibly. I thought of that also, but it doesn’t look home brewed. Could be though.
Definitely looks like the speaker from the Madison base except for the Uniden badge. Looks very well-done if it is in fact home-brewed.

They were real. I don’t remember the power handling capability but I know we sold them for a very short time as they were crap.

25-30 amps doesn’t sound right, I believe they were along the lines of 10 amps, but that was like 35 years ago. It looks like that transistor has been replaced to me.

Thanks for the info. At least i know i can keep digging around on the net and maybe eventually find some info. I guess i could stress test it, but i don’t want to smoke it either. I can say it’s easily a 10 amp. It handles the full 60 watts of a 5555n2 without grunting.

$10 for a 10A supply and speaker is a great deal.

Find the buyer of @niceguy71 pristine Grant.

.
The styling on these radios was really nice, as well as the Washington and Madison base radios. I briefly had a Washington base that I got in a trade with a buddy. One of the regulars, who was a "golden screwdriver", made a mess of the board doing the extra channels mod. and the radio was completely non-functional. I handed it to another of the regulars who was a good tech and he repaired it in one evening.

Maybe a month or so later, my buddy was missing the Washington. It was a gift from his parents so we traded back. We were both high school age at the time, so he might have gotten some grief from the folks too. I was also happy to get back the radio I had traded, only a Realistic TRC-30A that I had bought used for $15, but it was a great sounding radio that I enjoyed using.

The Uniden Force series radios are 40 years old, at least. I used to have a couple of UHF mobiles. I believe they were 35 watt. Unlikely the power supply would be so over designed that it would run 25-30 amps continuous. The radios probably pulled around 12 amps. Those service manuals are long since gone.

Likely it's rated around 15 amps continuous with the "Intermittent Communications Service" rating of 20.

Nice power supply and speaker for a great price.

Cool. Thanks. I’ll take 10-15A continuous. That’ll be enough grunt for a lot of things i have around here.

For most applications we switched the the Tripp-Lite PR-7 or PR-10, so like I said 10 amps is probably correct.

Getting OT but I don't remember if it was the Tripp-Lite or Astron, but one would pop the voltage regulator IC so much that we would put a DIP socket in every new one we sold so swapping that IC only took a few seconds.

Value price with good rep.
Yeah, I want an Astron but my radio might shut down in embarrassment.
