Madison County 911 Radio Towers set for $2.5 million improvement

“We’ll be on a simulcast system,” Mars Hill Fire Department Deputy Chief Bennie Gaddy said. “That’ll tie all three towers together back to the emergency operations center.”

There’s the potential for the new system to reach beyond first response units.

“We can include our county schools into the system,” Gaddy added. “In the future, we can include transportation.”

The expectation is that the company Zetron will be the contractor on the project.

Once ground is broken, the towers should all be up and running in around two years.

This is excellent news! VHF coverage in the mountainous area is very spotty, especially in the Spring Creek and Laurel communities based on my monitoring.
