While searching I located Mahoning County Sherrif on what appears to be a ReBroadcast Frequency.
There main dispatch (as shown in the DB) is 154.875 173.8 PL

I am hearing dispatch and the cars 3 out of 5 bars with some static but very clear on
151.3925 173.8 PL

I don't see this frequency listed anywhere in the mahoning county DB.

It is however listed when searched in the DB and it's listed as Mahoning County and Youngstown with a service listing as PW. The Call sign is also the same as that of the Mahoning County Sheriff KQD756.

I have both frequencies programmed on two different scanners one with 154.875 and one with 151.3925.
and they are identical.

Ive noticed this as well when trying to find new frequencies with my sdr radio. I'm not sure if it is a north and south type repeater system or what for all he little town departments in the county.

Interesting... I wonder if the rebroadcast frequency has something to do with MCSO's likely transition over to the Austintown/Boardman P25 system. It may give departments using VHF/UHF the ability to still listen to their comms.

This Vindicator article talks about the transition of MCSO dispatchers to both Austintown and Boardman. Youngstown news, Mahoning commissioners shake up 911 dispatching jobs

Are you sure that's not just their input frequency?

Positive. It has a hang time, never fluctuates up here in Trumbull county and repeats everything from the main channel. It's definitely a secondary repeater. Doesn't ID though.

Yep. I guess the question here is why are they set up this way? Is it for better coverage of parts of the county? Something like mentioned above for linking to the p-25 system? Are they pre-planning a simulcast digital system? I think that's what the original poster was getting at/letting everyone know it's there.

They put that transmitter on the air about a year or so ago to increase their coverage in the eastern part of the county.....The departments in the east part of the county were having a hard time hearing the Dispatchers so they added the extra transmitter and programmed the eastern depts. radios with that receive freq.

If they move to the 800 digital system the old VHF will not be needed....

However the county did NOT get the grant to buy the radios needed to make the switch...

The action taken the other day was just to make the County Dispatch employees Township employees so the transitions will take place easier down the road...... If it ever happens!!
