Can anyone confirm if Maine state police went encrypted? I am hearing very little radio traffic, other than a few units signing on/off duty. I'm surprised with the weather conditions them being so quiet.

It was this morning around 6am to 7am. Admittely I was getting ready for work. I have a SDS200 and I expected with the weather to hear more traffic on the turnpike zone. Maybe this was because of the holiday. Maybe I have a sinking feeling with everyone going P25, that encryption is not far around the corner and I was projecting. I did hear a few people singing on/off duty.

The State Police have been P25 for a decade and remain and will remain in the clear on their primary TGs. They was a big concern when they transitioned to MSCOMMNET, and local/county agencies were concerned they wouldn't be able to monitor MSP anymore.

It was more of a overnight storm we had so pike plows were able to keep up with it and keep the roads clear. Hence lack of traffic on pike

MSP has no current plans to go encrypted on their primary talk groups due to their extensive mutual aid responses. They have encrypted talkgroups for each troop and the system has many encrypted talk groups for ESU, SRT, Wardens, etc.

I am actually in the process of writing the program for my BCD996p2 and have been monitoring MSP for a few days now. They actually have been pretty quiet. Troop I has been pretty busy. Probably just a quiet day. Plus today was a holiday anyhow.
