Did the SS have a lot of equipment down in Crawford?
For the record, AES-256 is the new standard that is approved by the Federal government for encryption. Forget about listening to encrypted communications, because
1.) It's illegal
2.) refer to reason #1
So the XTL5000 is the mobile radio and the XTS5000 is the portable radio?
Some XTS4000's floating around out there also. Not real popular, but I noticed a few SAIC's and other top level folks are carrying them in the FBI.
Haven't seen anything else but DEA radios coming in here for service lately...
The info I have received is that the USSS uses Motorola XTS/XTL5000 with AES 256 encryption.
Everything with the USSS is AES Digital P25 with the ability to go "clear" P25.
Forget about trying to monitor. They rekey before every detail.
Sure. And come back when you are successful!Oh, so we shouldn't try to break their AES?![]()
They is easily understood from the thread and THEY do it because they want to, can, and have procedures that say it is the right thing to do.Who exactly is the "they" that you claim re-keys before every detail, and why would "they" want or need to do that?
Good for you.It is true that I do re-key the locks on my house before leaving to go hunt chipmunks each night!

Tim
P.S. It is true that I do re-key the locks on my house before leaving to go hunt chipmunks each night!
They would be USSS, and not every detail gets a rekey. For example rekey in/around DC is every 45 days (or sooner as neccessitated) as well as each trip team has a different key loaded. Since the key code is provided by NSA (or at least it was back in my day), NSA sets the key standards.
Yes, I was being facetious, in response to the erroneous info that radios are re-keyed before each detail...
Nice discussion about the US Secret Service stuff here....
Maybe some of you visits my website with audio files of the US Secret Service during a trip of POTUS (Clinton) to Europe in 1997. Most of the comms was encrypted (DVP), but some parts of the comms were in the clear.
For 2 weeks I was a 'little' surprised while watching the film 'the Sentinel' with Michael Douglas. The sound editor of 20th Century Fox simple ripped my unique audio files somewhere in 2006 from my website and used them commercially by mixing them up in this film!!!!!
They didn't send me a simple e-mail with a notice or a thanks....
