Making a scanner antenna

Does anyone know a few in the making of a scanner antennas. I would like to receive 42.02 to the 159.9875 MHz bandwidth. I will probably have to make more than one antenna to get good reception from all bands. Can anyone give any ideas, Thanks,nixpapa.

Most simple is to pick up a balun from radio shack, some wire, and apropriate cable/connectors.
Cut the wires to the proper lengths for the frequencies you want to listen to (using an antenna length calculator), and bamo. Homemade antenna.
