Does anyone here enjoy listening to mall cops?

My closest mall has a repeater so I can get in on all the "hot" action. I get to hear cop wannabees "getting tough" with kids who are talking too loud, cracking the whip on skateboarders, and putting a stop to other such horrors.

I enjoy how these clowns use police codes for things, like 390, 918, 237, and they even use many APCO "ten codes". VERY official sounding.

Yesterday a lady brought her dog into the mall and after quite an uproar I eventually heard "code 4, the dog is in custody".

One area mall by me does have a decent security force. They are rent-a-cops, but they run a decent operation. Other than some aesthetic issues, like the old school wide brimmed trooper hats and Paul Blart Segways they are good at what they do. The mall used to have proprietary security with good pay (for security, $10-$15/hr). They are probably paying the rent-a-cops, I think they are IPC International Security, $8-$9/hr.

It's a busy mall so they make a good listen on Friday or Saturday night, real strong repeater to because they are 10 miles away and I can hear them crystal clear with my scanner's indoor antenna.

I live in Milwaukee, WI. and 2 suburban malls are actually on the Milwaukee County trunked 800 system giving them easy interaction with their respective PD's. This partnership seems to work fairly well. MAYFAIR MALL in Wauwatosa is the bigger of the 2 users. Yes they are very strict in radio use and not tolterating nonsense and misconduct mostly from kids that don't know the meaning of respect but that's another story. It does trouble me a bit that you seem to make fun of these men and woman in security. They have the job of protecting the customers and merchants thanks to pukes in our world. It's actually refreshing to hear that a mall wants to make a great effort to enhance safety and provide and pleasant environment.

When I worked at a Radio Shack at a mall, I kept the mall security channels in a scanner.

They were mostly very professional, but did have their "Barney Fife" moments.

I still check on them from time to time.

These "wannabees" as you call them are the ones making sure that your mom, sister and any kids you may have are safe while shopping. Also, just fyi: some of those "wanabees" are retired "have beens", if you know what I mean. Happy shopping!!!

Sounds like there's a couple current/former mall security officers on here getting touchy at people taking a poke at their profession.

Just relax. Speaking as a person who was directly responsible for the safety(actual safety, not just security related safety-I don't know how many times security guards backboard spinal injuries out of the mall) of customers and their children in crowds comparable to any mall during the holidays, just take it easy.

It's easy to take your job seriously and not yourself. When you start taking yourself too seriously, that's when you start to sound funny over the radio, and people end up starting threads about it on internet forums.

You know Security Gaurd is 1 one the most boring jobs you can get.
most of the you sit on your rear end and walk some and report trouble makers and make sure no one messes with high voltage cables( lines )
