:D I have come across a couple more for MAMA1 and MAMA2. They are 460.6375 and 460.5125. I am not sure what these two frequencies are use for but you may want to try them. I haven't had a chance to try them in my scanner yet.

MAMA

Mountain Area Medical Airlift, helicopter air medical. They are based out of Ashville, but recently opened a second base in Franklin.

460.6375 - The frequency was originally licensed to the Highlands Police Dept as a low-power channel (2 watts).

In 2000, Mission-St Joe also licensed the frequency for base use in Asheville.

I cannot tell if the usage by Highlands and MSJ is related (landing zone setup / control at the hospital in Highland ?), or just coincidental.

460.5125 - Memorial Mission Hosp (Mission St Joe's former name) had a license for this frequency, under the callsign of WPDH865, until 1999. Information on this license, and most licenses before 2000, is not available on the FCC online database.

MMH licensed the frequency for medical use, which included a variety of purposes. Similar licenses, along with police and fire licenses, are all now a part of the PW class of license, but I could not find that MMH continued to license 460.5125 under a new or converted license.

Another frequency to monitor would be 123.050 MHz. This is a unicom aero channel, so you will hear other non-medical traffic on it. MSJ has a base station license on the channel, and can provide flightwatch for other med helos and aircraft passing through the Asheville area.

Also note...
Buncombe County EMS, and MAMA 1 Helo talk to both ER's of the MSJMC on the UHF MED freqs. When I spent a week in MSJ with a brown recluse bite.. I listened extensively to the helo and had a perfect view of the helipad from my room. *Future note- the new UHF freqs for Buncombe will be an LTR Passport TRS in the next couple of years, currently everyone uses the new VHF Simulcast nets.*

Historical Note: MAMA began as part of the MARS for NC.
MARS- Mountian Area Rescue System, included all the PS ststewide medical, fire, and mutual aid police freqs, as well as a few dedicated freqs. MARS was intended to be a area wide network for SAR, and EMS agencies throughout WNC. MAMA grew out of this collaboration.

Once the NC State Motorola TRS is fully active it will be interesting to see if MAMA jumps onboard quickly.

In Jackson County, the usual practice is for MAMA to contact the Landing Zone ground crew on the ground department's frequency. The Dispatch channel will carry reports as to the aircraft's location and airborne status. Comms between Jackson County Dispatch and MAMA base have been by land line.

That must be some stack of radios.

See the DB for NC on this site for Buncombe's info....

The VHF listings are correct and up to date. SO/EOC/VFD's are using the simulcast VHF HI for now.. The listing for EOC/VFD's for the new UHF freqs is for a future LTR Passport TRS, scheduled to come online around 2007/2008.

All listings for the city of Ashville's Motorola II TRS are up to date as of November of 04 when I made a trip up that way.

If your heading to BC/A'ville area with a scanner capable of tones.. see if you can nab a few more for us. Thanks in advance, and have fun in da mountians! **Also all info for the GSMNP/BRP are also still valid and up to date**

Thanks I have checked out the DB but I was looking more for the tac/scene frequencies/tones and maybe even the input freq/tone to either of the Fire Dispatch repeater or the Fire Comm repeater.

Listen to ALL the VHF Hi freqs..... Maybe you can ID which are FG/Tacs for the VFD's/EOC, and which are Tacs etc for the SO.
