An Imlay Township man is in the Lapeer County Jail today after a Wednesday standoff in which police said he handcuffed his wife to a pole, made a false bomb threat to a day care and fired a shotgun as police tried to gain access to the home.
No one was injured in the standoff at a house on Country Pride Lane in Imlay Township. The incident started about 4:45 p.m. and ended about 10 p.m.
The Lapeer County Sheriff Department responded to the house after receiving a 911 call from a screaming woman. When they arrived at the house, they saw a woman and a man in the basement of the house. The woman was handcuffed to a pole and the man had a shotgun.
Police said the man fired the shotgun as they were trying to gain access to the house. He told police he had placed a bomb at the day care his 3-year-old daughter attends.
No bomb was found.
The man, whose name has not been released, removed the handcuffs from his wife and exited the house after negotiations with the Oakland County Emergency Response Team. He faces multiple felony charges.
