I caught some traffic on STARS this evening beginning around 4PM. There was a wanted person out of Tennessee that was a former police officer and believed to be armed and dangerous. There was a unit/ agent (?) behind the individual and they were coordinating a felony traffic stop. I think the first VSP trooper was assigned to the scales (I'm not fimiliar with the area, so not sure which scales), and he and some Chesterfield PD units initiated the chase.

The BG wrecked a couple of times and in the final crash he fled on foot. Sounds like it was in the Jarrett area. They were requesting a helo and DOC K9. I'm not sure what the story is now or if they have him in custody. I did a quick news search on the internet and did not turn anything up on the subject.

Pretty interesting deal w/ patches opening up, etc.

I heard some of that on 159.000 on my ham radio on the way home from work. What is weird is that Chesterfield PD initiated the traffic stop on 95 South at exit 13 and that is when he took off. There were "special agents" who were following him as well. I had to get out of the truck shortly after VSP dispatch patched in area 5 (chesapeake) units to Richmond and move all other traffic to blue 1. About 6:20pm I was leaving in my truck and heard they had the suspect in custody off rt 610 and 614 in Greensville Co.

Cool. I didn't hear they had him in custody. I heard some talk of Blue 5 (I think in reference to air support), but I never heard that TG. The only traffic I heard on Blue 1 was in reference to a relay coming from Fairfax Div.

Chesterfield initiated the traffic stop?? Seems like it's just a bit out of the county to me. I wonder what they were doing all the way dow there? Had they been waiting for this guy or was it just one of those "let's pull someone over and see if they're wanted" deals?

There was a law enforcement officer following the individual. He had a BOL on him- I don't know how many warrants were out for him, but they included at least assaulting a police officer. I didn't hear the beginning (not sure how much I missed), but I believe I must have started listening shortly after the beginning. It sounded as if they did not want to take any unnecessary chances w/ this guy.

I don't know if the officer(s) following had him under surveillance or if they got lucky and recognized him from the BOL. I don't know if the officer following was VSP or another agency either... they really didn't say that I heard. The officer was either on a cell phone, or another system radioing it through his dispatch... don't know that either.

I think the pursuit actually started before exit 13. I'm not familiar w/ that area so my memory is fuzzy as far as locations. They attempted the traffic stop, the guy ran and I think he got off at exit 13.

I didn't copy the Blue 5 patch yesterday afternoon, but it was either reactivated this morning or left open because it was hot around 7AM with 1st Div. traffic. My previous post about Blue 1 may have been confused as a typo by my grammar. Blue 1 was for another incident at the same time. Fairfax units were doing a relay of an item. It must have been a priority because they were running hot and attempting the fasted way to pass it to the next trooper.

All in all, I'm liking STARS. I think it will make for some interesting listening.

I caught some of this as I was driving to Richmond on 95N and saw some VSP cars hauling butt going the other direction. I had passed Jarrett several minutes before I saw all of this and before the guy wrecked out when he got off on exit 13.

Anyone find out what kind of car he was driving? The first unit that caught my attention seemed to be going in between lanes a lot and I thought he was following an SUV. The way it was raining down that way when this was going on couldn't have made this fun for anyone involved...

I heard all of this on 159.000 at first and the repeater was sending out a tone every few seconds to let everyone know that something was going on. I've only caught a handful of pursuits on VSP so is this a new thing because of the fact that the legacy stuff and STARS are patched or have they always done this?

I could only listen to the simulcast on 159.0 due to the fact I can only pick up VHF on my 2 meter radio in the truck so I missed out on some of the talks groups. I keep my PRO96 at home just to piss off the wife while she tries to sleep lol!

Ch'field had been doing a surveillance of the bg for some time. He was some kind of turd who had gotten hired as a LEO in TN and subsequently sacked. Now he was on some kind of fugitive crimespree...the BOL had him wanted/armed/dangerous. They asked VSP for a marked unit to do a tfc stop. The first one available to the area of this operation was one of my co-workers, a cve officer. Upon beginning the procedure for a co-ordinated felony stop, the bg took off running and wrecked out somewhere down in Greensville (rte 610 sounds right). All this happened while i was sleeping, so I get this all second hand.
"Lets just pull someone over and see if they're wanted" indeed...:roll:wtf?

Anyway, the bg got nabbed in the woods with the assistance of an unhappy dog...

Well done, 3936.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be offensive to VSP. What I was trying to say was, was it one of those deals where they pulled the car over for a traffic stop and when they ran the DL, the subject came back wanted, so they arrested him, more or less being one of those "lucky" traffic stops. I wasn't trying to make it sound like VSP just pulls over random people for nothing, because they definately don't. Sorry if my original post may have come across in the wrong manner...
