On an older CB antenna I did we were worried about the wind loads on the chimney/antenna and if it would damage the chimney. To solve that problem we took 4 pieces of heavy galvanized angle iron and put them on all 4 corners of the chimney from the roof line to the top of the chimney (about 2-feet each in my case). Then we put the chimney straps for the antenna around them. It was very secure and the chimney never moved.

At first this sounds a great idea! But then I think that this will guarantee that it all comes down if the wind is strong enough. It just takes the bottom layer of cement to be bad.

Not if you extend the angle iron to the house level. Depending on your chimnet/house intersection you can mechanically attach it to the house also. We actually had a crack in the chimney and a huge CB Beam antenna (and I do mean HUGE) with a rotor mast with a terrible offset and it worked great. Some people use different lengths of iron also. Hard to say how well it will work without seeing the chimney.
