Does anyone have frequencies for the McDonald's Drive Thru? I've found a few VHF low listings on the net, but nothing that works. I've also tried Signal Stalker several times with every band open. Nothing.

You don't suppose McDonald's is already Project 25 compliant, do you? (That, unlike my ruthless attack on the Golden Driller, was a joke.)

I'd like the frequency so I could hear if they're talking bad about me. Call it hapless parnoia, but I have the feeling they don't like me. Probably won't do me any good since I don't speak spanish, but if anyone has it, I'd appreciate it.

Hello. They used to use 154.60/35.02 at most McDonalds.

You could check these FCC licenses to see which McDonalds near you is operating on.

From your postings, I have determined that you live somewhere between Peoria & Mingo and between Archer & 61st Street South. Using the FCC's website search, I found 5 McDonald's Restaurants within 3 miles of 31st and Yale.

1 42nd & Yale WPYG419
2 21st & Sheridan WQBU203
3 15th & Peoria WQBU208
4 1st & Utica WPYG423
5 49th & Memorial WPYG437

Go to the following FCC website. It will alow you to do any number of searchs to help locate the owner of an unknown frequency. I included the license number of the individual locations in case you have dial up. I did a 3 mile radius from 31st & Yale and got 4,306 records on 153 pages in a PDF report. (alot of them cell towers) You can also use a Licensee wildcard search for your zipcode.

Usually you can receive four frequencies for the two lane drive-thru's and two for the single lanes. ie: order taker on one and order taker and customer on the other. Range is approx. half a mile with a rubber duck antenna. I have received the Mcdonalds at Admiral & Memorial at Pine and Garnett using my truck's radio antenna with a splitter, a distance of over two miles. I have one bank set up just with fast food frequencies. You would be amazed at what the high school kid wearing the headset is saying.

If you're that paranoid about it I probably wouldn't even be eating there. Don't forget to key up your 110w Spectra while placing your order. Little desense never hurts. =)

Yea, they were on my work's main freq (154.515) until I complained to the FCC, they moved... :cool:

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you.

I have about seven years of "industry experience" so I know what kind of tom foolery goes on in those drive thrus. But now I'm gonna catch them.

And just for the record, NeFire, I'd love to stop eating at McDonald's. But I've worked very hard for the fine body I have and if I stopped eating there, I'd loose it overnight.

Now lets say all those freqs he listed about a hundred of them...lol but for example all those were used in about a 30 mile radius are you supposed to put them all in your scanner and hope one pops up lol.. theres a funtion on mine that is a limit search and goes through all the freq mine can pick up but that one takes a while and one day i was right by a mcdonals and on 170 and 900 (around there) the scanner was going crazy kept juming around from freq to freq and it wasnt on scan and once in a while i can hear the ppl at mcdonals but my scanner only freaks out when i drive within a 500 yard distance of mcdonalds i know they cant be putting out that much power??? Whats wrong anyone know?

McDonalds is starting to get away from the Headset/Radio drive-thrus.

They are now installing VOIP to a central call center that detects language. Your order is then put up on the computer and then you pay someone you have never spoken with before... unless it is your sister.

The VOIP system is for real. There is some testing now for ASR (auto-speech recognition)and human sounding TTS (text to speech) so soon you might never be talking to a human when you place your order.

Might not be so bad since the "human factor" is currently responsible for screwing up your order. I'm just excited at the prospect of being able to continuing eating there without having to learn spanish.

Having worked at one of these fine establishments sometime in my lifetime, I would be really suprised if they can get a computer to figure out what half the people are saying!

As far as the Hundred or more freq's programmed, when ever I go through a drive thru I just hit search in the service band of my 796D or 780XLT to find the headset in question.

Trust me. I am not reading this from article on the web. This is beng done. I know.

They will be using Cisco equipment and high dollar ASR software. To get an idea of what
I am talking about try dialing 1800 555 1212. It is not exactly the same. But close.

It is also to be programmed to when it does not understand an order to transfer to a live human.

I work on this stuff and that would not be too hard to do.

Really.

There are only a few expected responses and variations of those responses can be preprogrammed.

Your misinterpretted responses can be recorded and reviewed to see if they can be added to the dictionary of expected responses.

Now responding in a TTS in that dialect would be tough and alot of work.

But tell me this: What will the computer do when a drunk guy pulls out his Judge Thompson and refuses to leave until someone shows him some boobs?

Actually that only happened once while I was working the drive thru. And come to think of it, I'm sure a computer could have handled it better than I did.

Seriously, though, how far are we from having intuitive conversations with machines? Five years? Ten? It's easy for me to believe that voice recognition is extremely advanced, but are we any where near getting a machine that can think it's way though a totally random conversation?

I say 10.

We have the software but our level of patience gets shorter and shorter as we move through greater levels of technology. Our expectations increase to the point where we want more from day to day rather than year to year.

We can mass the processing power to run the software to make it happen but we have yet to really build a silicon brain that can think as abstractly as a human can. Computers can only do what we tell them to do and we don't even know how we do what we do :)

With the DARPA contest we are getting closer to more dynamic processing but that is still a limited arena of GIS and robotics.

Language, especially english is a tough egg to crack. Now just sit back and think of what a computer would think that last sentence was about.

I'd bet a million $$$$ that Google is working on it right now! :D
