• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Because MDC-1200 is an audio modulation method (like a modem) to send small amounts if data over an analog radio channel.

P25 is a vocoded digital radio channel and will not send modem tones well (if at all).

It’s also a good idea to have your voice and MDTs on separate networks for redundancy. If one network goes down, they will still be able to communicate on their other network.

MDC-1200 is a system for Unit ID, Status/Message and Emergency, not for MDT traffic.

Those features are all included in the P-25 data stream.
ID, Emergency, Status, Short Message, Unit Name (I think).

It is up to radio companies to implement them in particular models of equipment.

that is what i am trying to figure out, because my company is implimenting a Apco 25 conventional system, we already have the equipment to do so, we just need to change formats after all the right paper work is done, we have a CAD to help with some of our bigger operations in diffrent departments, and i know when someone called on channel 3 wanting to call over to security, the unit name would pop up and the unit id,

so it would say,

Safety,
unit id 1250
and the staus, if we desired to check

Talk to your vendor. You are out of the realm of generic answers.

Next to a scanner...
P25 has all that signalling possiblity. You can call (just make the RX radio beep), page (make the RX radio beep once every x seconds, and sends an ack back to the TX radio), and see messages and status of any unit so equiped or "flashed" for those options.

Nice thing about it is the fact that the unit data is continuously transmitted. You don't have to wait for a pre-id or have the radio stay keyed for a post-id. You can have unit names also (instead of numbers) if your radio supports it (called Soft ID by Motorola).
