Hi everyone, I was wondering if any has ever had any luck/experinece with MDT decoding? I have been trying to years and I usually give up. I have tried some programs that are supposed to work, but I have never had any luck. Anyone ever try this? Is it legal? I know that my community still broadcasts their MDTs on the same freqency it has been on for years. Thanks!

I succeeded a few years ago. Since then the agency has switched to something else, its a no go around here as far as know. I have no interest in it anymore. I live in a neighborhood with about 15 cops with different agencies. So I can get the inside info about the stuff I hear. My wife also watches a lot of their kids during the day so I guess I'm trusted pretty well.

First thing you will need is a scanner with a "raw audio out" or what some call a discriminator tap. This is the received audio before it goes through the rest of the radios electronics. Some scanners can be modded and some already come ready to go.

And yes a PC with the normal audio in on your sound card.

The only program I used was MDTMON. Not sure where to get it.

Heres you disclaimer. Yeah it's illegal. Personally I could care less. The illegal topic goes round and round on these boards. So it's your judgement call. Sorry but if my radio receives it when too bad so sad. Just don't go posting what you get on the internet or go bragging to your neighbors.

Everytime I see this I keep hoping there's going to be a response that something similar to ACARS is in place. But yes due to the sensitive nature of things, I doubt that'll ever really be the case.

I think I read something somewhere that ACARS is being phased out.
