I'm located in Northern New Jersey; I've been scanning the "MED" channels, CH1 : 463.000 hospitals, 468.00 paramedics thru CH8 463.175 hospitals, 468.175 paramedics for quite a while and haven't picked up any activity. This seems strange to me in that I would think there would be at least some activity. Anyone have a similar experience? Perhaps I'm scanning the wrong frequencies. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hmm,

I'm thinking that it might have some remote connection to the recent HIPPA laws. When I ran EMS in Bridgewater, SMC Medics used cell phones to talk to the ER attending (the ones with the special hookup to do telemetry if needed).

In Middlesex County, it seems medics (the MedRescue units at least) call a phone number and request a phone patch to a Doc. In fact, most of the time the phones have voice recognition and they have it identified as "Phone Patch". Personally though, I haven't heard anything on these frequencies. Maybe it's a low wattage if it just has to go from a phone in MedCentral to a doc? Not a clue.

The only med channels really worth monitoring these days are MED 9 & 10. MONOC uses those for dispatching, and some other ALS dispatching centers use them for secondary comm's to the field units. I hear Hunterdon County on MED 10 quite often.

I understand that Monmouth and Ocean counties in south Jersey use M.O.N.O.C. and operate on 462.950Mhz(med 9). Does Morris County use them too? What is the frequency?

Morris County ALS....

Cassidy1190,

The other ALS frequency to listen to is MICCOM on 155.175 MHz/PL 100.0 Hz. MICCOM dispatches ALS units in Bergen, Passaic, and part of Morris Counties. I dispatch for Wayne Twp. which borders Lincoln Park, and often hear ALS-901 being dispatched into Lincoln Park. ALS-901 runs out of Chilton Hospital in Pequannock so they are often the closest ALS unit available. On occasion you might also hear ALS-701 going to Lincoln Park. ALS-701 runs out of St. Joseph's-Wayne.

Hope this helps your monitoring.

Med Ch

there are 10 Med Ch in New Jersey the Freq's and PL are listed on the NJ DOHSS web page. there are about 3 to 4 radio is MICU trucks one radio being for the high band 400Mhz and a second radio in the VHF band range. both radios are linked together the medic talks with the VHF radio and the Dr answers on the 400Mhz. most of the time i use a phone patch it is much clearer the the Med Ch's. the phone patch is a number back to dispatch that they link to Med Command that is recorded

Each MICU truck has it's own VHF Freq. at least thats how it is Mercer Co.

I didnt realize that. I have heard them use the med channels quite often. In fact, when recieving a job they are assigned a med channel for their use if needed. Also, trauma alerts are paged out on med 9 (i think, maybe 10?).

More often its just them B.S.-ing with the dispatcher.

What are the vhf frequencies for the medics out here?

Not all agencies use VHF channels, but here is a list of JEMS 1 frequencies: http://maxpages.com/frequencies/JEM_Freqs.
