I don't suppose anything new was for us scanner folk was presented at the show - eh?

Hello,

I think there was only the Icom IC-R7. I guess the AOR AR Alpha does not count as AOR showed it before.

Enjoyed reading the Blog, Hara arena has been there a long time. You would think with all the different venues there, the owners would put more back into it, very Good description of it. Hoser

Yep Hara is a dump for sure. Hamvention keeps that place afloat (if you call it that). Other than Gun shows and a few trinket shows nothing is going there. Nice blog, was even in one of those pictures:cool:

Hello,

The observations are right on. Why improve the place when people come back year after year. Last year that had bathroom flooding problems. There seems to be rumors every year that Hara will be closed down and Hamvention moving someplace else. They sure did a lot of redevelopment around the area in past years.

In the picture the guy sitting in the left side of the picture is Hap Holly, who does the RAIN Report. The guy standing in the booth is Ed Collins who helps out with the Hamvention and AMSAT. It appears like the same setup as last year with AOR and Radio Shack nearby.

It will be great if Lindsay can attend next year as I am planning on attending. I usually talk to Richard Barnett and occasionally buy stuff from him as the AMSAT booth is just down the street and over one block.

Now we need to get Lindsay over to the Winter SWLFest. A much smaller gathering that some RadioReference people attend. :)

I too got to meet Lindsay on Friday and was a pleasure to speak with him for a while.
That was the first Hamvention I've been too since '89 when I was with the squad doing medic duties.

Hara has not changed one bit, I think its the same coat of paint that was chipping away as well. The notoroius bathrooms near the concession stand flooded and was shut down for an hour or so. The flea market had a lot of junk as Lindsay pointed out, but had an absolute ton of scanners there. You name it, it was there, and mostly over priced. For example we saw price ranges for Pro-95's from $75 to $150. We did spot a Pro-96 for a $100 in absolute mint condition that a friend of mine picked up. Some of the better deals were computers, there was a seller with refurb'd Dells selling for decent prices.

One of the perks for me was that I finally got my ham ticket. I missed getting my general by 3 questions. For my reward, I picked up a Yaesu VX-7R.

Yaesu showed off the VX-8R that will be out in a few months. Some of the specs are built in bluetooth, and a GPS module that connects to the top of the lapel mic. There were others but I dont recall at the moment.
