According to the database, its a motorola type one, but I get nothing from any of the control frequencies listed on the radioreference data base and the fcc data base for merced county, in current and pending applications.

I have BCT15X, I hear CHP up and down the state, can hear Merced PD, but I live in Atwater and the local PD is supposed to be on the east county system.

and I know I am in range, the PD use their radios across the street.

When I drove through the I-5 corridor a couple months ago, I also was unable to receive anything on that system. I tried running a quick search though the 700/800 band to see if any control channels popped up, but I couldn't find anything, although I wasn't trying too hard.

I haven't been able to tell in my travels where they went, but the TYPE I system seems dead.

They do have a couple of 800MHz simplex channels. But I am too far away to receive them.

I am going to put all the simplex and repeater frequencies listed by the fcc for the county public safety, maybe i will find something...

I just find it odd that we cant hear any of the police activity for any community outside of the City of Merced and CHP in this county. Even if it were now digital, I should be able to pick up a carrier for at least one of the carrier channels listed by the FCC right?

This document (I used an achive.org link to save it from deletion) from a Board of Supervisors agenda in 2020 goes over their radio systems, sort of. More of the high level equipment on the various radio systems. It *seems* that Sheriff may be on 800 Conventional?

Neat document. If they are on 800 conventional now, I wonder if they're using their old Type I frequencies or something else?

Upon further review of the FCC ULS system, WCPQ368 is the Type I system "callsign" for 854.3625Mhz for County of Merced. Looks to have a Pending App for a change dated last year. Looks like either the state or some Radio Shop wanted to take over the frequency in the area.

If no one else does, the next time I'm down that way I'll plug those into my setup and see what I hear. Does that include the callsign I listed in my previous post? It looks like it does.

Has anyone been able to figure this out? If not, I may be down in Merced County tomorrow and will see what I can find.

I drove down there today. The Merced County (East County) system is still active, but is now identifying as a Motorola Type II analog system, not Type I as shown in the database. TG-53760 appeared to be Merced Sheriff Dispatch. Control channel was 859.23750.

I was mainly using the custom search mode on the 992P2 in the car in control channel mode. Such a great feature, wish the newer SD-card scanners had them.

Here are the screengrabs from Unitrunker. Some corrections to my earlier post, Merced Sheriff Dispatch was 57360. There was no other traffic heard on the system except for some road flaggers. And the control channel was actually 858.53750. I had posted the earlier info by (incorrect) memory, doh.

I added the "new" East County system to the DB, and I just noticed that there's a West County Type II system listed as well. Is that system still on the air? No talkgroups were ever submitted for it.

It believe the control channel was broadcasting, but I wasn't on the western side so it was hard to receive. I didn't hear any voice traffic on it when it would pop up. The two trunked systems were mentioned in their radio system upgrade documents a couple years ago.
