Does anyone ever scan MESTA (Mayes County EMS)? I show a freq of 155.325 but never hear anything. Im wondering if its the wrong one or if im just too far out to hear the VHF.

That's the right frequency. I live near Pryor and dispatch is clear and so is the units when near by, but they are very hard to hear lots of times. It seems they don't have a repeater, but they must have a good base to be able to communicate with all the units.

MESTA used to use a link on 173.3625 but not sure if they still do. Might see if you hear anything out of them on that frequency, or 173.360 if your radio won't accept the frequency step for .3625. I believe they still use that link, but I'm not positive of it. The link rcvr/xmtr site was between Locust Grove and Salina somewhere, but it was up high.

I can confirm MESTA does use 173.360. In fact I believe that is a repeater output for them, as I can hear both the mobiles and base clearly, while at the same time I have a hard time hearing the mobiles on 155.325.

I can't believe I've listened for all these years to 155.325 and wondering why I have such a hard time hearing the mobiles. I think I was listening to the repeater input for 173.360.

Are the frequencies licensed? If so check the location info and find out if it is just a relay or an actual repeater. Should say if it is a repeater.

What's the difference between a relay and a repeater? Not sure how to check out what it is. I can verify they are using it and when they are talking it is on 155.325 and 173.360 at the same time, only much clearer on 173.360 for the mobiles.

So 173.36 is a valid repeater for Mesta? If so it should be added to the database...

It's not a repeater in the sense we commonly think of one. It's a link. Dispatch xmits and receives on 173.3625. The trucks xmit and receive on 155.325. So, the link hears the trucks on 155.325 and sends it to dispatch on 173. Dispatch xmits to the link on 173 and the links sends it to the trucks on 155.325. Or that's how it was designed to work when it was put up years ago. Not sure it is still exactly like that, but I bet it is.

I though that it sounded like a very odd split for a VHF repeater. The link makes more sense.

With good coverage by the new DPS state 800 system in their area now, maybe they will be moving to that?????

So to sum a link up, everything it hears on EITHER freq, it sends out on the other.

"MESTA question"

MESTA is getting a new system in the very near future. It will be VHF not 800mhz which sux. freqs are not known as of yet. there will be 2 new repeaters one located where the link is now north of salina and hopefully one on the tower west of pryor that the dps 800 system is on. going to try to stay with a 25 khz split not the new crappy 12.5.

link freq is 1173.36250 pl 131.8

main 155.3250 pl 156.7

switch over 155.2200 156.7

For all of you out in scanner land, mesta has a pending license for its first repeater. The input freq looks to be 151.3400 pl 156.7 recieve freq will stay the same 155.3250 pl 165.7.
This will be good for all the departments that use mesta dispatch because paging wont be down while everyone has to reprogram. license is for the salina site which will provide the best coverage for mayes co. still looking for land for the second repeater if anyone knows of any for sale west of pryor on osage hill let me know...
