šŸ‘šŸ¼ So thereā€™s really no interesting communication from the passing trains? Iā€™m close enough to the line and occasionally hear some extra horn action assuming thereā€™s track work in the area. Appreciate your input.

I think what he means is that since they are buying XPR3500 portables (which are not capable of NXDN) that the NXDN upgrade isnā€™t worth it.

No NXDN in the foreseeable future. The vast majority of radios on the property are Motorola, with most only capable of analog at that.

As far as what there is to listen to, you'll hear plenty. The closer to the city, the busier the radio gets, but it's still pretty on most places along the line. If you're used to listening to freight carriers, you'll here significantly more on Metro-North.

Depends on your point of view. I like going out and watching trains, so monitoring the radio is quite useful, even if there isn't always a lot of chatter.

Which for Metro-North may not really be a big deal. If I recall correctly there's no mandate for railroads to use NXDN if a digital switch were to be required if they don't interchange with another railroad. If MN uses the tracks of another railroad, then it could become an issue later on.

Tom, that's a good point. So the next question would have to be, who owns the tracks from the CT line to New Haven? I would think MN...

State of Connecticut / DOT owns all the rails in CT I believe contacted to MNRR. I'll have to ask Hogan to confirm bud.
