Middletown PD Louisville

Middletown in Louisville has in the last few years formed a police department. I feel there radios might be encrypted or are dispatched by the 8th division but I am not sure if anyone has found them on the metrosafe system or on a conventional channel.

They're probably dispatched by JCSO on Sheriff 4. Now and then hear them on Police 8

Is police 8 full encryption. I know on RR it says full encryption, but I wasn't sure if anyone has heard anything in the clear

The only LMPD talkgroups that are not encrypted are 1-4. There are some other possibilities. Scanman does some things with the Emergency Management Agency in his amateur radio operator capacity and could be at some EOC location where there is access to those encrypted talkgroups.

Middletown PD is in the LMPD 8th Division which uses Police 2. He could mean he heard Middletown PD on that Police 2 when they were assisting LMPD. It's pretty common to hear small cities officers back up LMPD officers and vice versa, using a Police channel.

Middletown operaters on JCSO 4 as 800 units (lower 800 units, like 814, 815, etc). They do occasionally come up on POLICE 2 which is the 3/8th divisions channel. There is no such channel as "Police 8".

All small cities with the exception of St.Matthews, Anchorage, Shively, and UofL, who all have there own dispatchers. As well as some odd balls like Louisville division of Probation and Parole and Metro Corrections HIP.

At one point, J-town PD had their own dispatch operation too. A number of MetroSafe/JCPD dispatchers retired and went to J-town to work. I can't say with certainty they still do, but think so.

Yea, you are right. I forgot to mention them in my above comment. They still do there own dispatch as well. Another exception would also be JCPS Security (Law Enforcement) who also have there own dispatch but on a separate radio system.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. When I said Police 8 I meant the 8th division which is on Police 2.
