I would like to see some milcom posts from some of the (moa )areas in and around Iowa, and some general milcom freqs heard. Does anyone have any military freqs they would like to post, or get posted.

Assuming no one answers here, the single best place to see such loggings are mailing lists devoted to the topic. Probably one of the best is the Milcom group on QTH.net (we have a link to the page that allows you to join in the military monitoring wiki). I've never seen any Iowa based loggings there, but that may well be due to the fact that no one has expressed any interest there.

Of course, one has to know where to look to find the MOA frequencies...

https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/charts.cfm

and get the AP1B document (it's rather long !) while you can. Grove's frequency directory also, I think, has it, but being a publication, the data there may well be a bit dated.

:)
I posted there and I know of a couple that do. I'm not retired so I can't listen as much as I would like. Even with computer based scanning and audio recording there is so much that I can miss. But I try.

With the FLIPs now gone from public access, lists like the one above are a veritable gold mine of information. In fact, it should be posted in the Wiki so it doesn't get lost. Nice list, splash1

Hey guys, first post here, but long time lurker/consumer of information.

04 Mar 21:30-ish lots of MilCom in DSM area on 138.200. A couple of F-16s are aloft practicing IR/NVG-type intercepts on various vehicles around the area. Heard Bulldog 11 tracking a car from the fuel station at 86th and Uni down to Valley Junction. Called "Caveman" on the ground when they got in traffic and couldn't discern the target vehicle. I've seen anti-collision lights and heard jets overhead for the last hour or so. Just heard (21:44) request for landing so I guess they're done.

I could follow them in my head for most of the turns the vehicle made, even without street names, so I think they're doing a great job of night-intercept and target reference to a ground controller.

I assume a work-up for deployment, although I don't know if they're set to go soon, if at all.

More MilAir

Hadn't checked these board for a bit, but the ANG seem to be active during the week, Tuesdays through Thursdays at least. 3/11/08 after 20:30 heard more fighter traffic overhead tracking of ground targets on 138.2, 138.4 (not much) and 138.9. Heard Hawkeye, Bulldog and Cyclone tracking ground targets, and individuals moving in and out of cars this time. Complained a bit about weather and moved Northwest to do other activities. Heard some squelching on refueling frequencies, and talk of fuel status, so maybe doing some of that too?

If you're in DSM and you hear fighters (or at least loud jets) overhead, check out the 138.xxx range (I've got 138.1, .2, .3, .4, .5, .7 and .9 programmed) and you'll hear something interesting. Most activity appears to be on 138.9. I've also been monitoring the other KDSM frequencies, especially mil freqs, on another scanner so I know when flights take off or land during those times. Tonight there were three distinct groups on three frequencies coming and going so the approach and tower freqs helped sort the university callsigns out. The flights appear to orbit the metro many times over the course of a sortie tracking vehicles.

In the Fort Dodge area we have seen an increase of Milair traffic this week.

311.3 133rd Test (Kingpin Tonight) U-12

138.4 Secure Comms
Noticed when the planes were heading up here they used 134.0 VHF, I usually note them with MSP on 288.3 (U-11)
The AR's are active tonight also.
Also noted the other day 36.70 which is ANG Ops FM One (This is how they identified) also hear them use 280.80 IA ANG Helo Ops

Hi Brian
Great to here from you again. It's been a little busy over on this side of the state also, and can get confusing keeping up with who is with who and where when Howard MOA ,VOLK MOA, and AR routes all come active at the same time.

This morning i hear traffic on
269.225 and 251.250 (Lindberg MOA) with Viper 1, Viper 2, and Dragnet . Lindberg MOA is a long way from here, but they did give there location as Lindberg. Also some traffic on 275.800. I don't have an id on this one yet.

Brian also sent you a pm
