Thanks, I'll be looking onto the LoRa thing a little more....

My guess though is that by the time any equipment meets all of the military requirements, it'll cost as much or more.

Just like taking a simple passenger aircraft and turning it into a refueling aircraft. The KC-46 had to be completely redone to make it 'suitable' (redundant wiring in separated parts of the aircraft, etc...).
