Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management is hiring a Radio Services Coordinator.

Radio Coordinator

JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain accurate records using databases and spreadsheets; develop operational and technical policies and procedures, and other admin duties as assigned.
  • Act as a liaison to other County Departments and partners for communication system services requests, complaints or problems. Assist with subscriber break-fix issues and provide communication system consultation services to County Departments.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventories including portable radios, mobile radios, base stations, spare infrastructure equipment, shop tools, and shop supplies.
  • Provide radio communications and technical support to County Departments and mutual aid partners; set repair and maintenance priorities. Provide 24 hour on-call support for mission critical systems on a rotating basis. Provide on scene coms support for public safety incidents.
  • Assist in the maintenance of back-up generators and UPS systems. Coordinate snow removal and landscaping service contracts, maintain radio site security and facilitate site access to external contractors and vendors. Keep radio sites and work areas clean and organized.
  • Assist in maintaining the Milwaukee County Subsystem of the OASIS public safety radio system. Monitor operation of system using GenWatch, working closely with Motorola FSO, diagnose, repair, and replace radio infrastructure equipment. Adjust system and network configurations.
  • Install and configure mobile radio installations in squad cars and other County vehicles. Install, configure, and maintain base stations and BDAs in County buildings.
  • Maintain 911 Dispatch console configurations, and make changes as needed.
  • Develop, modify, and deploy code plugs for Motorola, EF Johnson, and other approved manufacturers. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning subscriber radios, perform preventative maintenance and tuning of subscriber radios. Manage and maintain the OEM emergency radio cache.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Wisconsin resident at time of application
  • Current Wisconsin Driver's License maintained throughout employment
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required
  • Must be able to work any assigned shifts including regular and/or frequent on-call assignments
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background, including fingerprinting, and an employment verification check
  • At least 6 months of operating technical equipment of any kind. Experience with all systems is not required, but the individual selected will be expected to learn new systems and eventually solve problems as needed and with little assistance in the future.
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification or must obtain within six (6) months of hire
  • ICS Communication Liaison (COM-L) certification or must obtain within two (2) years of hire
  • Ability to push/pull/lift/carry up to 50lbs on a regular basis

I was the Coordinator myself years ago, and everyone needs to start somewhere. This is an entry level position with room for growth.
