From what one of our members said here about a month ago, in areas where there is good local and county coverage, there MAY be less WSP presence although that can vary from shift to shift as it was explained to us. Just monitor 154.665 and listen for a couple of days to get familiar with the unit numbering and the respective areas of patrol. As I understand it, the lowest of the three digit 200 series numbers are ranking officers while the higher three digit 200 series numbers are traffic patrol Troopers. The four digit 2000 series numbers are motor vehicle carrier inspectors, but they also respond to crashes for traffic control if available. I'm up in the north central part of the state and can monitor 154.665 from here with the VHF beam turned south southeast. Radio traffic across the board is down now that they have some of the bugs worked out of the mobile data terminal network.

Reminder - VP Cheney will be in Green Bay Monday March 13. We have no idea what channels will be in use for this one on Monday, but in the past MARC I was activated for the motorcades and airport security. We'll have to see what's up this time. (???)

The State Patrol in District 2 patrols the Milwaukee-County freeways along with the Milwaukee County Sheriff. They help each other whenever they can with problems on the freeway.

State Patrol District 2

Besides Milwaukee County, the State Patrol has communications on the dispatch channels for the Kenosha and Racine Sheriff's Departments. They can call each other on Kenosha's 155.9550 [PL 107.2] and Racine's 154.7550 [PL 186.2]. The State Patrol hears the sheriff's dispatchers along with their own.

Close, but not quite. The state of Wisconsin actually pays MCSO to provide traffic enforcement in Milwaukee County on the freeway system. By some federal law or directive, there must be 24 hour coverage of "Eisenhower" Interstate freeways so MCSO is subsidized by the state to do so.

If a trooper comes across something out of line, then they will stop it but as a rule WSP doesn't actively enforce in the county. The motor carrier inspectors are a different story, and are quite active with truck enforcement.

Neither. All sworn staff are issued take home cruisers. Troopers, Inspectors and Sergeants are all assigned to a county and/or interstate sector within the region that they work. The Captain and/or XO work out of each region HQ.

WSP has no offices in Milwaukee County.
